Guest guest
I have had breathing problems ever since I was on mtx, and I stopped it several months ago, but the breathing problems continue. I spent a week in the hospital from the breathing problems and all they did is give me breathing treatments and steroids. Guest guest
Both the RA and the methotrexate can cause breathing problems...I and my mother had problems w/respiratory symptoms before methotrexate...get in touch w/your rheumy and LET HIM/HER KNOW-the emergency rooms and general practitioners will just treat the symptoms.... Guest guest
Mylinda, group I have sleep apnea, I use to snore and stop breating at night. My husband of course would wake me up to. When I told my primary doctor, her sent me for a sleep study. I am on a c-pap. THat is a machine one use at night to help them breathe and no it not an oxygen machine. It gently blows air in my lungs when I stop breathing. Tell your primary doctor and he will decide what to do. I found out sleep apnea is very serious if not taken care of. Gentle hugs to everyone Clora > > HI TO ALL RA GROUP MEMBERS. I WAS WONDERING HAS ANY ONE EXPERIENCED LUNG OR BREATHING PROBLEMS WHILE TAKING MTX? I'VE BEEN ON IT FOR OVER 6YRS.NOW. Guest guest
I belive that RA itself can cause breathing problems over time. I suggest that you make an appointment with a pulmonologist and have lung function studies completed. If you are having episodes of apnea (pauses in breathing) when you sleep, you may need to use a C-PAP machine while you sleep. Guest guest
I had a bad cold and the dr took a chest xray. They found a " nodule " which after many tests was diagnosed as a " rheumatoid nodule. " It causes no symptoms but is one of the pulmonary complications of RA. I also seem to have developed an asthma-like condition. The pulmonalogist checked me over for MTX as a cause of my coughing, but all tests indicated slight asthma and possibly an esophageal reflux (GERD). They put me on a drug called Protonix and that seemed to help the coughing. Go figure..... Have your dr check out the source of your cough. They can definitely tell if it's from MTX. Guest guest
Joy , and Group I am so sorry for your nodule in your lung. RA has so many other medical problems to deal with. It just aches my heart to hear these thing. I myself never relized how ill someone can get from RA till I got it. I am very sensitive to others illnessses. I try to be comforting when someone tells me they have something wrong with them. I hope they can take care of it. Are the doctors going to give you medicine for it? Or just wait and watch. gentle hugs Clora > I had a bad cold and the dr took a chest xray. They found a " nodule " which after many tests was diagnosed as a " rheumatoid nodule. Guest guest
I have no idea if my breathing issues are related to MTX or RA or something else. I recently had a test for pulmonary hypertension and was quite happy to hear that I don't have that. I have been off the MTX all summer w/o much improvement. I see my pulmonologist in 2 weeks and my rheumy next week. I'm just hoping to be off of the MTX and maybe try Arava. We'll see what happens. Take care, Tammy in WI _________________________________________________________________ Got Game? Guest guest
Tammy WI and Group I have PAH, Pulmonary arterial hypertention. I heard it's pretty bad. I read a lot about it. Anyone else have it. I am so glad you don't have it Tammy. If anyone knows about it. Tell me about it please. I know what caused it. I have congestive heart failure and sleep apnea. These conditions are being taken care of with a c-pap and medication. From what I know about it, there is no cure. I feel ok now. I can't seem to get any information out of my pulmonary doctor. He is in such a hurry I forget to ask. Gentle hugs Clora > I have no idea if my breathing issues are related to MTX or RA or something else. Guest guest
Sorry to be adding to this so late, I have been off line and still trying to catch up. I had a similiar situation with a lung nodule. I was on MTX and it was making me sick for two days of the week and then I developed chest congestion and a cough finally after going for a CTscan for kidney stones they found " something on my lung " well after seeing a pulmonary specialist and many tests they concluded that it was a nodule. I had been taken off the MTX because it was making me so sick. No one said that the two were related. Flash forward four years. I had been in a terrilbe flare since Jan and the new rheumy was having a hard time helping me she suggested I try MTX injectible so it would not make me sick I only had three injections each time getting worse and worse. Hoarness, chest congestion basically feeling like I could not get a full breath. She told me to stop the MTX and go see if my allergist would let me take the shots in his office under a controlled environment. I went to see the Allergist and he said I was crazy for even thinking of taking the MTX because I was having an allergic reaction to it. (I also had an anaphlyactic reation to Enbrel) Seeing that MTX was not an option for me and I could not continue with the prednisone my Rheumy felt she could not do anything else for me (I have many allergies) I opted to travel to see my old Rheumy who had relocated. The happy ending....My old rheumy has me on Plaqeunil, sulfasalazine requip, and finally weaned off the prednisone and I am beginning to feel like my old self again even started back to my dance class once a week. Now if I could only loose the weight I put on from the prednisone... F. [ ] Re: BREATHING & LUNG PROBLEMS USING MTX. Joy , and Group I am so sorry for your nodule in your lung.
