Guest guest
: You don't need a doctor's prescription to get a cane. You can buy one at almost any good drug store/medical supply place. I'd try for the independent, not chain drug stores, as I have found that their products tend to be better made and to last longer. I buy my medical supplies, canes, walkers, scooters and even my wheelchairs from my local, independent, compounding pharmacy. That's also where I get my pain meds, since getting the chain stores like CVS, Albersons etc to carry the schedule II meds on a regular basis is like trying to pull teeth out of the moon. A good cane will cost you no more than $40 max, and you can find real good ones for quite a bit less. The cheapst one I've ever seen that I even remotely consider buying was $8, but I passed it up in favor of a $22 one and I'm glad I did. I would urge you to get one with a padded, plastic/rubber hand grip, as these tend to be more comfortable. Hope this helps. -- Dodge " I make the living, my dog makes the living worthwhile. Guest guest
, Have you had a diagnosis with your back? Call your rheummy and let him know how bad it is. My rheummy was the one to order my cervical spine x-rays and MRI. Then she referred me to a neuro-surgeon. From personal experience with my lower back I have several things going on. I have a herniated disk, degenerative disease of the lower lumbar and osteo arthritis. I see a chiropracter for my lower back. I do not want surgery and physical therapy did not help me. A cane should help some, but it would be best to know what is causing the pain. I pray that you get some relief soon. Guest guest
how do I find a compounding pharmacy? I agree,Im having a problem with my walgreens giving me a hard time about the amount of narcotics I need now.the pharmacists get all in my face about it and are rude and nasty to me.I think they have to fill out extra paperwork when they have to fill the amount I need every month.Im sick of the nasty attitude I get from them for sure.they treat me like Im an addict and dont need the stuff. I have fibro and have had elevated rheumatoid factor for at least four years now but I havent been able to afford a rhematologist because I could barely afford the meds my neurologist pain doc prescribes and the meds they gave me were for people with lupus and stuff that was so harsh it made my hair fall out and gave me horrible digestive problems and pain in my stomach.ive taken celebrex and the stuff like that and it always made my stomach hurt or gave me diarrhea and stomach cramps within less than an hour of taking it.I had to file for disability last year in dec. and havent been able to afford the doctors I need.I most likely need a rhematologist and some tests and xrays but I cant pay for that with no health insurance.I havent been able to work for a year now and am fighting with soc sec about my disability benefits. My attorney told me to get a prescription for the cane so it is documented that it is necessary.I told the pain doctor about it the last time I was there and showed him the one I have.I got it for two dollars at a discount store near me but the tip isnt wide enough I dont think and I do need a rubber pad or something on the handle.its a derby style cane that has a flatter slightly curved handle on it that isnt quiet so rounded as a crook style cane.I tried some before I got this one and looked for some on the internet too and even went to a thrift store to get one but they didnt have any.I am thinking I could get some of those padded bicycle type handle pads at walmart and put one of those on it with some electrical tape or something. i am really strapped for cash now and am waiting on a hearing date with a soc sec judge to deal with my ssdi case.I am afraid I wont have enough money to pay for the little bit of meds I am buying now just to keep me fairly comfortable while I fight with soc sec over whether I can work or not.I was in so much pain and I kept trying to work but couldnt concentrate well enough do my work or get to work every day.I got terminated from three jobs for attendance in six months and finally I gave up and filed for disability in dec last year.Im so anxious and afraid and upset, the stress is making me worse.its raining today and I have a bad time whenever it is wet or rainy even the day before. My rheumy is working on my back pain starting the 13th of this month;;; I will let you know what she does.. I am going to request a walker to walk with when I see her..
