Guest guest
I have not heard of this but am very interested. Thanks for the tip. [ ] A book I am reading... My wife recently introduced me to a book recently written entitled " And They Say It Wasn't Possible " by R. Hurd. She is a nutritionist who lives in Fall Creek, WI (about 10 miles from me) and her take on diseases like colitis, RA, and Crohn's Disease is very interesting. She claims that RA is not an auto-immune disease but is a problem of the adrenal glands not producing enough corticosteroids. There is a specific diet she has advocates and I wonder if anyone has heard of or tried it. I am going to try this diet. Its efficacy will determine for me whether or not I start DMARDs. She has a website at www.karenhurd. com. Brad
Guest guest
I checked her web site and did not see anything pertaining to RA. I like the theory about adrenols not producing enough corticosteriods because I know I sure feel much better when I am on them. What type of diet does she suggest? linda From: Brad Berg <blueworld_of_fire@...> Subject: [ ] A book I am reading... Guest guest
Hi Brad - I know that taking the DMARD's and even the Biologics can be a daunting option. I've heard of several others who have gotten relief from adjusting their diets. I have also heard of several others who have had no relief. I guess its a crap shoot either way. 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. The best thing is it won't hurt, so best of luck to you. Keep us posted and God Bless.....Doreen --- In , " Brad Berg " <blueworld_of_fire@...> wrote: > > My wife recently introduced me to a book recently written entitled > " And They Say It Wasn't Possible " by R. Guest guest
, I'm still reading the book, but initial steps include an almost exclusive diet of beans (kidey, lima, black, etc., not green beans) and water six times a day to get a good steady flow of soluble fiber into the intestinal tract where bile from the liver can be excreted from the body, thereby helping to heal it. Also, one should stop eating cruciferous veggies like broccoli during this time. Basically the diet slowly changes, first addressing the need to reduce toxicity in the blood and body, then healing the intestinal tract, then improving the production of corticosteroids. As I've been reading, I've seen many of the bad food/drink choices I used to make (and still sort of do). I used to drink a six pack of soda a day, ice cream, fast food, and other junk. Hurd goes through a detailed look at what is occuring to our bodies, how the systems are interconnected and what can lead to problems like RA, Crohn's, colitis, etc. Her take is that a lot of diseases begin in the intestinal tract and the problems occuring there spread to other systems, and I've seen other research to support that theory. Once I'm done with the book, I'll give a better synopsis.
