Clora,

The best way not to miss a check would be to set up a direct deposit of

your disability check. That way you do not have to wait for your check

to come in the mail, and you know it will be on time. The form is on

the internet at the Social Security website. www.ssa.gov or you can

call SSA and they will send you the form to complete.

There are a couple of things to know about doing this: It can take a

month or two for the checks to be auto-deposited, and you NEVER want to

close out your bank account until you are positive that the check will

be deposited in the correct account. So if you are going to be opening

up a new account in the area that you move too, do not close out your

old bank account until you have received at least one check into your

new bank account.

If you prefer to have your check received in the mail, wait until you

actually move until you call SSA to change your address. Stuff

happens, if you move later than your think your will, or to a different

address, your check will be returned to SSA. It can take weeks to get

a new check to you. (The check needs to be canceled, a stop payment on

it, it all takes time)

If you are on SSI, and need to make allowances for changes in Medicaid.

Look up the information on medicaid in the new state you will be

living in. Find out if there is a information number to ask about

Medicaid in the state, if there are HMO or PPO for insurance, how to go

about finding a Rheumatologist, etc. Most states will not do any

paperwork until you have actually moved into their state. As for

timing so you still get your medications refilled timely. Ask how to

start your medicaid in the state. In California, all you need is a

letter from SSA saying that you are eligible for medicaid through SSI.

It may or may not be that easy in other states.

Good luck, and I hope you like your new home,
