I don't know exactly, but while it is quite low, I doubt it's low

enough to be dismissed.

That's it in a nutshell. He seems to be one of those unfortunates

who's constitutionally incapable of brooking even the most polite

disagreement.

Hmm. Well it would be interesting to see a quantification of these

various different factors.

Chris-

I should probably add that I meant that in a clinical or scientific

sense; I'd guess that excretion isn't a large enough factor to make a

practical difference to people whose interest lies solely in losing

weight, though I suppose I could be wrong.

Ah, I see. I was thinking in terms of making a practically meaningful

contribution to the metabolic advantage. Then again, some of the

things I mentioned may or may not be major contributors as well.

There is also the fact that there is some in vitro evidence that

ketones make cellular respiration *more efficient,* which could

compensate for waste via excretion if it occurs in vivo. But

efficient respiration could have a lot of benefits too. And if you

have lots of ATP, you can do lots of things like detox and make

anabolic hormones and stuff that you might not otherwise do. I really

think the main advantage is probably through hormonal influence and by

depriving adipose tissue fo the glycerol backbone for triglyceride

synthesis, but that's just my personal bias I guess, as I haven't seen

any data.

No, I wish.  Actually I did lose about 20 pounds when I tried the elimination

diet.  But gained most of it back when I added things back in.

I was wondering if when you all were diagnosed with RA, if any of you since have

lost weight

thanks

I lost about 15 pounds, but it was from being anemic. I had a bleeding

ulcer from Aleve. I took prescription iron, and the weight came back

on, even though I was undergoing radiation treatments following a

lumpectomy for breast cancer.

I wish I could have kept those 15 pounds off. I'm not overweight, but

at the top number for my height.

For any of you who have lost weight since starting your treatment for

RA, don't worry! I think I found it. Thanks to the Prednisone.

Grrrr.... If anyone is missing 15 pounds, you're welcome to have it

back. I don't want it nor do I need it. I have enough thank you. ;)

Kathy and ....

I feel like I've lost my appetite sometimes. I am around 120-125.. But I

have found that the craving for food has left me. I do remember my first rheumy

telling me that r/a can sometimes do that. Maybe it's the meds.

Hugs..a

I run into that myself, I don't know why. Sometimes it's from the constant

pain. Other times I haven't a clue. I've been dropping weight for a few

months, and it makes my wife mad. She can't lose an ounce even though she

eats like a bird and tries to be active, and still gains overnight from a

glass of water.

One day a long time ago, we took our 3 kids to the lake to teach them to

ski. I drove the boat and Betty was 'retriever'. After a full day of her

swimming almost non-stop, she gained a few pounds, and it wasn't water!
