Guest guest
Alison, Unfortunatly it is noty always that easy Randy qualifies for SSI and is recieving it but in our state just because you get SSI does not mean you get a medical card or medicad it is a whole nother process longer then the SSI one and they can make their own decisions. I hate this topic because our insurance sucks and i cant get any medical help for Randy Our insurance will pay for no speech and the new tests they are running now is only covered at 60% Applied for healthy start just for him noone else was only 70.00 over income that month had doctors letters etc they turned him down cold. Then we come to the waiver program which will only look at his income and assests you have to be there at 6:30 am and sit for 3 hours and then they tell you that hte waiting list is over 1 year long and because my son only has been diagnosed with speech apraxia and nothing else his ears dont come into consderation he doesnt qualify for that so HE's screwed basicilly and i sit and worry about bills. I just wish they had a standardized way of going about medical help for the children who need it medicaid use to be a program that no child went without if they needed income didnt become a factor . But the clincher to it all is if you take him off of private insurance and pay us 50.00 a year we will give him a medical card but we wont cover anything that comes up in the 1 month time frame that he has to be off insurance before i can reapply I laugh at them If they only knew the problems that could arise in that month time frame so its a laughing joke. I rather pay my 40% and what ever else the insurance decides it doesnt want to pay for then to pay without any medical coverage and have a dire emergency arise and cant get help there also is a program called BCMH that the childrens hospitals work with but you have to have every dx that your child has and if you artre in the process of finding one they wont nessecarily cover it and the doctors have to send the forms on it you just cant apply Sorry for all the negativity but this is one thing that has driven me crazy and still does Amy Mother To Randy 4.10 speech apraxia possibly mild CF and mild Di plus lots of things that have gotten better
Guest guest
You would go to dfacs for it. First you have to apply for SSI (social security). If your family makes too much money you will get a refusal letter. You then call up dfacs and ask them for information on medicaid. It is called the Deeming Waiver here in Ga. It is probably the same all over the country. Alison > Thanks for the info. Who would I call to see if I qualify? > > Traci
Guest guest
Amy, Well that explains it then. I thought it was a federal thing so it would be the same in all the states. But now I do remember talking to a mother who moved here from another state who had twins that were very sick and she was spending about $500 a month on medication. She went to go get some help and they turned her down. They told her that her husband makes to much money (he was a policeman) and all that they could recommend is for them to get a divorce and then they could help them out. They told her that alot of people do it. I can't believe they would rather have a family split up then to help them stay together. Thanks for letting me know. It is probably the same all over the country. All states do not participate in the deeming waiver, just wanted to let you all know that. In Tennessee we have TennCare and it stinks for those of us who " Make to much money " but can't afford to pay the high cost of the therapies out of pocket. Guest guest
When my son was first diagnosed with Apraxia, I was told by my state that he could not receive SSI, they didnt consider it a disability. A friend had suggested applying when my insurance stopped paying for additional private speech therapy. Our luck has not been good at all dealing with different agencies. I hope that others have better luck than we had. Trina. mom to ,8; Candace,6; and , 3.83 (Verbal Apraxia) >I was just wondering how come nobody has brought this up. Guest guest
Lana, When my son Korben was wearing the DOC Band, Medicaid paid for everything! We just had to wait for the go ahead for him to get the band! We live in Texas and they paid for everything and we didnt have to do any paper work! But good luck!
