Hi ...I have a pin point red rash all over my neck, chest, stomach, legs

and feet with plaquenil. My dr switched me to arava. In the meantime, had

to get a steroid shot and used benadryl and zyrtec.

Hope you can call your dr...and see if something can be done...

Hugs..a

Hi ,

You need to call your MD. Benedryl makes a good safe cream that is OTC. BUt

I would talk to the Dr first.

I had a very similar reaction to Plaquenil just a couple of weeks ago.

After taking it for a few days, my tongue swelled up, I had sores in

my mouth & on my tongue & a rash just as you described from my mouth,

down my neck to my chest. My Dr. pulled me off the Plaquenil & gave me

a Medrol pack (steroids) to clear it all up. At the moment I am only

taking NSAIDs b/c she wants to give my body a break & at my next

appointment she wants to test me for G6PD deficiency. This is a

missing enzyme in your blood that will prevent your body from

metabolizing certain drugs properly - Plaquenil is one of the drugs on

the list. If I am all clear for that, I think she is going to try

Sulfazaline next.

I don't know which is worse - the RA or the wacky side effects from

the drugs

*hugs*

I take 8 mehtotrexate/wk, 2 plaquanils/day, and sulfasalazine 3/day.

I know I have to watch exposure to the sun and I do to an extent.

I've taken this combo for 1 year now but so far I have not had any

rash as you describe it. But, who knows, everyone reacts to these

drugs differently so do make sure you find out what it is and take

care of yourself.

Hugs, Stella
