Guest guest
Hi all, My GP told me that Arava is better than MTX. Does anyone take it ? Does it cause hair loss as well ? Thanks again... Leonie
Guest guest
leonie my doc told me arava is more dangerous than mtx. i have also heard it causes more side effects generally than mtx. my doc also said he refuses to give arava to women of child bearing age as it coudl result in the woman never being able to have kids. whereas mtx he said if you go off it for 6 mos then get pregnant it's alright. would your gp give you the mtx injections? monique
Guest guest
, There are toxicity issues related to Arava (leflunomide), but it hasn't been around as long or used as widely as MTX - its safety profile is still evolving. The most common recommendation is that MTX be discontinued at least three months before conception. Like MTX, Arava is teratogenic, so it must also be discontinued before conception. Arava may remain in the body at significant levels for up to two years, so the cholestyramine washout procedure should be used if the patient wants to conceive. As far as I know, Arava doesn't interfere with a woman's ability to have children. http://www.emedicine.com/MED/topic3259.htm http://www.medicinenet.com/methotrexate/article.htm http://arava.com/con_isi.aspx Not an MD On Wed, Oct 15, 2008 at 12:37 PM, Sauve <moniquesauve@...> wrote: > leonie > > my doc told me arava is more dangerous than mtx. i have also heard it > causes more side effects generally than mtx. my doc also said he refuses > to give arava to women of child bearing age as it coudl result in the > woman never being able to have kids. whereas mtx he said if you go off > it for 6 mos then get pregnant it's alright. > would your gp give you the mtx injections? > > monique
Guest guest
I have been on Arava for some time with some success. I have not heard that it is more or less toxic than MTX. Suz >
