I have been on remicade and methotrexate for about 6 years (maybe more

for the remicade). Recently, I have noticed that I cannot remember

words - silly words sometimes, like refrigerator. It's on the tip of my

tongue but I cannot remember it. I have looked around the web and

really haven't found too much (except that it's a side effect and some

other terrifying websites that I wish I hadn't read!). Anyone talk to

their doctor about this? I have my next infusion and appointment in 3

weeks. I really feel that the drug has been a miracle for me and I

would hate to stop it, on the other hand, I am a teacher and I need to

stay sharp.

You are absolutely right!! I forget a lot of words, it will be on

the tip of my tongue but for the life of me I can't remember. It is

driving me crazy. I take plaqenile, lyrcia, MXT, plus I take other

meds for diabetes, copd, CHF, depression, I don't take Remicade. But

I am still having memory problems. I been check for other things

that go with memory problems but not for memory loss for something

else.

I will talk to my doctor about it. I don't doubt its my meds I take.

I like to thank the ones who wrote about weight loss for people with

RA. and those that told about how family dont understand our

conditions some times. I read all of the email that come in from the

support group. I am so happy I found a support group. I didnt

believe in support groups before. I have a lot of medical problems.

RA has really confused me the most. Having a support group is great.

Thanks everyone and the ones that post them thank you. '

Oh by the way, My husband don't take any meds. He is healthy as a

horse. He said he cant think of words sometimes. haaaaaaaaa

We are over 50. I teased him and told him it was old age. He wasnt

going along with that. He just turn 50 and he says he is not old

yet. lol

Maggie,

I have the same problem. It isn't constant, thank God, but too

frequent. The other night when I was saying my prayers, I could not

remember my step-grand-daughters name! I must admit that it scares

me at times. I don't think that I have dementia but I have

questioned myself.

I not only forget but sometimes make some stupid statements and then

(hopefully) correct what I have said. This morning I told my grand-

daughter that snakes give live birth. No they don't! I did tell her

I was wrong, but where did that come from? What causes this?

Personally I do think that the RA and pain plays a very big roll. Am

I just hoping that is what it is?

Clora and group,

Since I started getting the symptoms of the RA, my memory has completely gone

kaput! I had problems with my memory before, but nowhere near this bad. A

couple times a day I would forget a word and it would seem like it was on the

tip of my tounge and I would have to go through the alphabet to come up with the

word, but now even that doesn't work anymore. And it happens all the time now,

every time I talk I'm forgetting words now. It doesn't even feel like its on the

tip of my tounge anymore. I'm not taking any RA meds yet. I wonder if its

another symptom of the RA itself.

I don't know about RA, but this is a classic symptom of menopause....I

know!! It's called " Brain Fog " and happens all the time to postmenopausal

women and many times, perimenopausal women.

So if you're not old enough for either, get used to it..LOL

Maggie,

It's kinda funny that you would mention that. When I last say my rheumy

eariler this month. (I am getting started on remicade and was on it

for years when I was first dianosed). I was asked if I wanted to be

part of a study w/ RA and memory. It was a one time only thing and they

paid $5 cash for my participation. It was really simple stuff, but I

passed w/ flying colors.

I guess there is a study in progress...it may not be just you. We'll

wait and see.

The " Brain Fog " is also part of Fibromyalgia. I live with it everyday

as well. I thank God for this online group (and basically anything

online) that gives me a chance to get my thoughts together in writing

before posting. There is no way I could have spoken all of this

without " fogging up " somewhere...........Doreen :)

Doreen,

I have fibro too and I don't think I have experienced the fibro " brain

fog " yet. I was kinda " ditzy " before, if my husband gets on my case for

forgetting something...I know I can blame it on " brain fog " from fibro.

lol.
