Rajkot AIDS Prevention Club, Rajkot NDP and Giants International, all of whom have been working for the cause of HIV positive people and to spread awareness on HIV, have adopted 111 HIV positive children from Gujarat's Saurashtra region. The children will not only get financial aid, but will also be taken care of by providing treatment and medicines. " They (HIV positive children) need help. So, we have selected 111 such students from Saurashtra (region), which includes 58 children from Rajkot and the rest from Gondal, Jetpur, Jamnagar and (we) will give them aid of 350 to 1,000 rupees every month and we will visit the places and if they need more, we will do that, " said AIDS Prevention Club, Rajkot, President Arun Dave. Padma Ben Patel, mother of an HIV positive child, said: " I think this is a wonderful gesture of adopting 111 children, which also includes my son. I am making all efforts to make my child's life comfortable. But with the help of such organisations, I am sure, we will get lot of much needed help. " Children were excited receiving study material as gifts from the NGOs. " Today I got a school bag, notebooks and I want to study further. I would like to become a doctor one day " , said Jigar. According to the United Nations, India last year overtook South Africa as the country with the most people living with HIV -- an estimated 5.7 million. As per the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), most of these people are in the age group of 15 to 35.
