Guest guest
Hi Judy - it was interesting that you said " long-term use of Prilosec is known to be bad for bone density " . I wonder if Zantac is the same way as I take it every morning for the same reasons. Hmmm - time for some more research and a bone density test......Doreen --- In , Freebird <freebird99tcui@...> wrote: > > I agree with you Dorothy. > In Nov of 2006 while having a mammogram done I also had a bone density test and found out I have osteoporosis in my hips and worse in my spine. > I was put on Evista 60mg daily, Calcium 600mg 2x daily, D and Magagnesium. I'm on and have been on plenty of RA meds in almost 5 years but have never taken prednisone, something I just refuse to do. My Dr. said she wanted to start me on Evista for the osteoporosis rather than Boniva because of my known stomach issues. The Irony in this is I take Prilosec each morning because of the problems the other meds I take cause to my stomach But... long tirm use of Prilosec is known to be bad for bone density. It's always something isn't it? ~lol~ > Anyway..... > Be sure to get those Bone Density test done everyone, their the only ones you have. > > Judy in OK >
Guest guest
Wonderful news Evista seems to be working for you Sue. I look forward to finding out how things are going after my next test. Judy in OK From: Sue <marysue@...> Subject: Re: [ ] Bone Density Date: Monday, August 11, 2008, 9:19 PM In February I had a bone density test and also my annual mammogram. I still have osteopenia in my lumbar spine, but my T-scores had actually improved some since the bone density test in 2002. I have been taking Evista, so I guess it must be working. Guest guest
Hi Doreen I know nothing about Zantac, only what my Dr. said about Prilosec. You're right though, wouldn't hurt to ask your Dr. about a bone density test. I had no clue I had a problem in this area until after the test, a real eye opener for me. Guest guest
Judy, I did not know that about Prilosec. I am due a checkup and will ask my GP about a bone density test since I haven't had one in about 10 yrs and I have been taking Prilosec longer than that. Thanks! Guest guest
, Please do post that information. I'm not aware that bisphosphonates are contraindicated for those with RA. Guest guest
, I have visited this bulletin board for a long time now, the post shows up as a permenant " sticky " , that's why it has stayed in my memory for so long. http://www.healthboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=210107 Re: [ ] Bone Density , Please do post that information. Guest guest
Thanks, . The poster references a letter to the New England Journal of Medicine in which the authors discuss possible ocular side effects of bisphosphonates. The poster provides no evidence that bisphosphonates are contraindicated in RA or that they can induce lupus. I'm not aware of any evidence to support these assertions. Guest guest
Yes, it is very normal. All my bone density scans are done on my hip and forearm. They cannot read the spine because of the instrumentation. Donna T. > > > I just left my bone density scan appt, and they weren & #39;t able to do the spine part of the scan because of my rod.
