nne,

Did your doctor test your blood for the RA factor? If you are not

sure, you can call the docotrs office and they can check. You can

have RA and have a negative RA factor also. If you are negative

usually it would be a rheumatologist to diagnose you. If you are

positive you need to get a referral to a rheumatologist as soon as

possible, which typically take 2-3 months. Early treatment is vital

in preventing progression of the disease. If you are not positive,

talk with your primary care doctor and see what he thinks about the

type of arthritis that you have and he should be able to give you

the answers you need and a referral also.

You might want to google Rheumatoid Arthritis Symptoms and compare

yours. Sometimes we have to point the doctors in the right direction.

It is sad, but almost everyone that I know around my age (58) has

osteo-arthritis to some level in their knees. Oseo-arthritis can be

treated and you really do need to know.

I hope you find out for sure what your is.

Hi...Thanks for the response. It is very much appreciated. My

Orthopedic doctor thought it was Osteo Arthritis but they did not

take any blood tests. nne

Hi nne,

If you haven't looked into finding a good rheumatologist, that would be

my next move. I had a doctor 25yrs ago told me I had, " arthritis. " He

was a quack, and I would love to visit him, and let him see my condition

now.

I'm sorry your having such a horrible time. You really need to find out

what type of arthritis you have, and treat it with the right meds.

Living in pain every day, is very hard on a person.

I hope someone can help you, and you can find a good doctor. Tawny

Tawny: What happened? Did the doctor misdiagnose your case?

nne,

He just told me I had arthritis, do to: car accident, job related

injury, and physical abuse. He would give me NSAIDS, and send me on my

way. He never once checked me for rheumatoid arthritis. Tawny

Living each day with RA is a big struggle. I am on RA meds, and I'm

still able to take care of myself, so I'm lucky there. I do have pain

all the time, and not able to do too much.

Its really kind of hard to explain. Most, could not take the pain I do.

They say, one never knows until you walk in their shoes, so true. I

just take one day at a time. The last six years, I've learned a lot. I

will battle this disease for the rest of my life, and I pray I'll win

it.

I try to control my RA, but it controls me most of the time. Tawny

Tawny: I know what you mean about the struggle. It seems that I get

more concerned every day that I may not pull out of this and end up

in a wheel chair. I have been very active all of my life so I don't

know how I would cope with that. My biggest concern now is that now

I feel very unsteady on my feet. It is hard to be in a crowd of

people because I get the feeling that I am going to be trampled. I

still have pain in my knees but it is getting some better since the

last time I over did it. However, the unsteady feeling in my legs is

always there. Is this typical of R Arthritis? nne

nne,

I would advice to see a rheumy. Without a specialist, you just can't

tell whats going on, you know? I have osteo-arthritis in my knees,

and they are very painful. Do you have just knee pain? Do you have

pain in your joints? It is very easy doing too much, and then pay

for it big time.

It is hard to deal with knowing you might be in a wheelchair one

day. I'm ready to get one, or a scooter, and it will help me. I'm

not able to do much, just hobblin' around here. I can't go out much,

and its just depressing.

I know a lot of people who are very active now, since getting a chair

or scooter, and are able to get out of the house. You just have to

take the next step.

I hope you can find a good rheumy, and get the right diagnosis. You

can get on the right meds to help you.

Take care, and keep me posted, Tawny

Hi nne and welcome to the group. Sounds like you need to have

some xrays done since this has been going on for so long. I wonder if

you have torn something in your knee. I wish you the best of luck. Let

us know what comes of this. My prayers are with you......Doreen :)

Hi Doreen: Thanks for the prayers. I need them. I have an

appointment with my orthopedic doctor in November. I am sure he will

take more X-rays. I have had one MRI done already last year. They

thought then that I might have a torn meniscus (sp). I am a little

better the last couple of days but cannot do " any kind " of work that

takes much strength. Thanks for the reply and I will keep everyone

posted. nne

I have mostly knee pain but all of my joints hurt from time to time.

I had pain in my neck for about 3 days this week and I get pain in my

ankles and shoulders. Yep, I did too much and now I am paying for it

big time. Hopefully, there will be something I can do so that this

does not advance any further. nne

Hi nne - I fully relate to your description of how you feel

unsteady on your feet. I am the same way. Sometimes I feel if I don't

pay attention to where my foot is going with each step, I will stumble

and fall. Its a pretty scary feeling, for sure. I don't know if its

typical of RA, but I look forward to hearing what some of the others

have to say about it......Doreen :)

Hi nne and Doreen: I know how you feel with unsteady feet. That

is why I fell and broke my shoulder and foot. When my RA flares, my

feet are the worst. They swell, and are too painful to stand on, let

alone walk. I also have discovered that I have Neuropathy on the balls

of my feet, caused by my RA. All this causes me to be very unsteady on

my feet. It makes you feel awful, let alone the pain. I am sorry you

are experiencing this problem with your feet and balance. I hope you

both will feel better soon. Wishing you pain free days ahead. I care.

Hugs,

Barbara

Thanks Clora. I know that prayer works. I appreciate that very

much. Today at 2:00 PM I have already taken 6 Advil. It seems that

for some reason I am stiff again today. I did not over do either.

Hi Doreen: Yes, it is a scary feeling. First of all I feel like if

somebody is watching me they might think that I was on alcohol,

drugs, or worse. I feel like an old drunk a lot of the time. In

church this morning it was hard to get around the crowd of people. I

felt like if anyone even bumped me a little bit I would fall. We

have a lot of kids in our church and sometimes they run through the

aisle way, etc., I almost lost my balance trying to avoid them. I

did finally have the nerve to leave the walker in the corner. I know

a lot of my problem is being " afraid " that I might fall. nne

Wow, nne - 6 Advil before 2pm? That's not good - you're going to

eat a hole right through your stomach. If you haven't already, I would

suggest making an appointment with a Rheumatologist before you do some

serious damage..........Doreen :)

Hi Doreen and all: Yes, I have a terrible time with my stomach but

Advil is the only thing that will give me enough relief to be able to

get around without a walker or drive me crazy with so much pain I could

not stand it. I have GERD now and also a hiatal hernia and I certainly

can tell that the Advil does not help it one bit. However, the only

thing that I can do is to wait to see my Orthopedic doctor to see if he

will send me to a Rhuemmy (as you all call them <ha>) I am also very

sensitive to medications. There are few that I can take without having

severe side affects. I took 500mg of Lodine the other day and it sent

my blood pressure up to 200/99. I could not control it with my blood

pressure meds and it really scared me. I had to wait until the drug

wore out of my system. So....I don't know what I will do. I try not

to think about it too much and I just endure a lot of the pain because

even with the Advil I have a hard time. Thanks for the input and if

anyone has any other suggestions I certainly am open to hear any other

remedies that might help until I see my dr. Many Thanks. nne
