Hi :

Sorry to hear that you are still in pain after two weeks! Have you

spoken to your doctor.....does he think it is because the fibroid is

shrinking. I don't remember reading (and I have been reading a lot) about so

much cramping after a UAE. I'm starting to have second thoughts. Would you

do it again?

I scheduled for a D & C, hysteroscopy and biopsy on the 28th. I guess I

will have a few more questions at that time.

Hope you are feeling better soon. Take care.

Thank you a.

I've been reading alot too and I don't remember reading about the pain

either. I have heard that everyone reacts differently and I believe it. I am

finally feeling the pain is easing up...I'm so grateful. My doctor wants me

to come in tomorrow so he can check to see that everything is ok. If I find

out that the pain is probably due to shrinkage and that everything is fine,

I'll feel much better. Its the unknowing that makes it scary. Even at this

point, I would probably still do the procedure again just because its the

only thing that made my bleeding stop. But, I'll tell you for sure after I

meet w/ the doc. tomorrow...

Best of luck to you on the 28th.

I'm just curious. By how much did your 15cm fibroid shrink after UAE? Also,

how old are you?

,

I have read your prior posts and know

that you have been through the gauntlet

of medical therapies/procedures for bleeding

from Uterine fibroids.

A couple of questions to refresh our memory-

It appears that you had different medical therapies

one after the other or simultaeously, ie birth control pills,

lupron, followed closely by UAE. I know you were dealing

with a significant bleeding problem. How long was it

between the time you had the lupron shot and the the UAE?

Are you dealing with a submucousal uterine fibroid?

Sloughing and transvaginal expulsion of submucousal

fibroids have been reported.

You can check this link:

http://www.ulb.ac.be/erasme/edu/ufe/congress

/autresorateurs/murgo.htm

which is a good source discussing technical

complications post-UAE or type fibroid expulsion

post-UAE into the google.com search engine.

I would strongly advise that you NOT use Nora Coffey's

HERS www.uterinearteryembolization.com link. Nora

has done a tremendous DISSERVICE to women on UAE.

She's not talking with IR's, attending SCVIR conferences

OR DOING HER HOMEWORK ON UAE. I used her service initially and was

grateful in 1995 that HERS was there for me....her

networking/referral service for Dr.s performing

myomectomies appears to be helpful/effective.

Nora is severely limiting innovation, choices and

progress in minimally invasive and uterine sparing

procedures like UAE...her strategy to confuse &

frighten women is unconscionable.

It would be prudent to watch yourself carefully, diary

your pain, keep track of your temperature, watch for the possibility

of expulsion of the fibroid especially if it is submucousal.

Don't panic--keep in touch with your IR/GYNE. They should be

working closely together on your case given the circumstances.

I admire your courage, . Hang in there with us.

Cheryl,

I'll be 50 in August...Can't wait... :(

Woops, how time flies and

memories lag, correction on the size

as I review 3 year old medical records,

my uterus was 15 X 9 X 10 cm, fibroid

was 9.8cm X 9.1cm X 8.7cm reducing to

7.4.

Now, if in the future I should need any

other medical procedures, ie re-growth

of fibroids post-UAE; other problems,

I can have a myomectomy; in the event

of cancer, a hysterectomy...but already

I've re-gained another few years of normal

uterine function, staved off HRT which I

was not a candidate for, anticipate

menopause with reduced estrogen levels...

hopefully.... but have medical options

in my back pocket, should the need arise.

Like , with heavy bleeding, I

didn't have the luxury to wait years

to see longer term results with UAE--

I needed the procedure then. I'm

glad I had it now. Take care, Marsha
