Guest guest
Thanks Kaptain Judy It's a lot easier to rationalize my way into a " treat " but if I can keep this mindset - I WILL win! I want to reach goal so bad!!! I'm writing in my journal every day and setting little mini goals for myself. I think the " big picture " was just too much to take all at once. Melody > Melody I am so impressed with you walking past the donuts!! You know 80% of weight loss is between your ears - and your using it when you consciously turn down things that doesn't fit in your weight loss plans! Congratulations! Guest guest
hmmm that's a good question! I think (but am not sure) that you can do what you'd like on a chapter level. She just wouldn't be eligible on a State level to be royalty. No matter how she lost and got to goal - I would definitely celebrate with her and for her! Reaching goal is a HUGE deal no matter how it's done and she should be recognized on the chapter level just like you would any other KOPS! As far as the Official rules go - I'm sure one of our eteemed A/C's can answer your question. Melody > P.S. Can you tell me if someone reached goal in 2004 and they had the bypass surgery - are they eligible for chapter queen? > > K-Judy

Guest guest
Judy, here I go again - - - I hope I don't make y'all mad and you decide to kick me out of the group - - - The TOPS Weight Recorder book says that anyone in Division 9 (the category everyone is in who has had any kind of stomach bypass surgery), cannot be Royalty on any level. However, I agree with Melody that ANYONE who reaches KOPS status deserves recognition and praise! You can honor them at your local chapter level - and they will be recognized as KOPS at SRD, but they cannot be recognized on stage at SRD as Chapter Queen. This has caused some hard feelings on the part of people who have had the surgery, but on the other hand - it caused some hard feelings on the part of the people who had NOT had surgery and were all being pushed out of the running for any of the Royalty positions. There will be special recognitions at SRD for the Division 9 winners, just as there is recognition for winners in every Division - - so be sure to list her on your year-end resume just like you do any other division contenders. Hope this helps - - ((((HUGS))) Clara No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Guest guest
LOL...now Clara! how can anyone be mad at you??? We love you too much to EVER be mad You are just quoting the official rules which is exactly what we needed to hear. I wasn't sure on the chapter queen part - I knew they didn't qualify on state level, so this is great info to know! There is nothing that says you can't make your newest KOPS " FEEL " like a queen though <G> So do up the celebration TexasTOPS style and make your newest KOPS feel like a million bucks and treat her like royalty!! Guest guest
Hi Clara, Your not making me mad - I'm asking for clarification and I figured some of you guys would have the answers... I really did think it became effective Jan 2005 but just wanted to clarify. I see both sides....in the past I probably leaned more toward having the separate division --- but as I learn more from some who have had it... I do believe now that having the surgery doesn't lose the weight for you... you can actually stay the same size and regain anything you do lose if you do not practice healthier eating habits.... soooooo what I'm saying it's not easy even with the surgery and unless you are committed you won't succeed to goal just because you had surgery. Folks that go the hospital/doctor clinics and drink the milk shakes are every beit of a simililar kind of help to take it off -(and they aren't in a different category or penalized and not allowed to be royalty are they?) they are just using helps available to them. I'm not compaining at you... I'm just thinking out loud......: ) I choose TOPS and I'm glad I did for my help. Guest guest
Hi, Judy - - Thanks for not wanting to kick me out of the group! I don't want to be a busybody know-it-all, but I do try to study the leader's and weight recorder's manuals and keep up with what is changing. The Division 9 rule was effective January 1, 2004; this next SRD will be the first that will recognize that division. After hearing one of the area-captains, who has had the surgery, talk in Dallas at our field staff meeting, I agree that it is probably just as hard or harder for them to live with the lifestyle they have chosen than it is for the rest of us - - but I guess my feeling is, "If it's that hard to do with the surgery - and they can discipline themselves to do it that way, why couldn't they do it without the surgery?" There are so many different opinions that it can cause a firestorm!! But TOPS International has made the rule, and we have to live with it, at least for the time being! Bottom line - - - losing the weight and feeling good and looking good should be more important than whether or not you are Royalty. Even the surgery is not going to guarantee that you'll be Royalty - - there is always the possibility that someone else is going to lose MORE weight, no matter how it's done!
