Kim,

I'm sorry about you feeling so bad. I wish I could tell you

something and it would majically go away.

I'm glad you can take Mucinex. It makes my BP go very high.

I hope you get well soon.

Sorry you cold is hanging around too long. Heard that Zinc lozenges

are supposed to help colds but never tried that yet. Even though I

flush my sinus daily, I still ended up with a sinus infection on a

Friday as usual.

Hope you feel better soon.

Kim,

I know its tough being sick, and not able to take your RA meds. Make

sure you take multiple vitamin, and plenty of vit c, it helps so much.

I take extra B-12, and its been helping the fatigue. I pray you will

get better soon, so you can start back on your meds. Tawny

Hi Kim - sorry to hear you are feeling so bad with this never ending

cold. My thought is that your cough might be post nasal drip from your

runny nose. Have you tried Benadryl? It usually dries me up pretty

good - although it does make me extremely sleepy - and helps to stop

the sneezing as well. Are you feeling any tightness in your chest? If

not, I would think you could stop the Mucinex. I never had much luck

with that and take the plain Robitussin Guaifenesen (sp?) instead. It

tastes nasty, but is great for loosening secretions. I hope you feel

better soon. If you decide to try Benadryl, please make sure it won't

interact with any of your other meds......Doreen :)

Mucinex and Guafenison (or however it's spelled) are the same thing.

Have you tried the saline washes? This is more than saline spray, you basically

flush out your sinuses with saline wash. I have a good bottle- I bought it at

Rite Aide and it comes with premeasured packets of salt. It's easier to use

than the alternatives I have tried and very effective at clearing out the junk

that keeps a sinus infection going. It's hands-down the best thing for

self-treating sinus issues. (Once you get past the grosser aspects of the whole

thing, you come to enjoy the feeling of a cleaned out head and the ability to

actually breathe through your nose.)

I have had sinus surgery twice and have had chronic sinus infections for 20+

years. A cold that's been hanging around for a month is more than the common

cold- have you been to the doctor?

I use a Ayr kit I bought at your pharmacy. It was premade saline

packets, too. One packet per flushing. I had sinus surgery several

years ago and still do get sinus infections often, like now. So flush

my sinus out twice a day.

Hi Marie - I guess I should have clarified what I was talking about. I

know the active ingredient in Mucinex and plain Robitussin is the

Guaifenesen. For me, the liquid Robitussin works better. With the

Mucinex, I don't think I was drinking enough water to activate the

Guaifenesen.

Thanks for pointing that out............Doreen :)

That's the brand- Ayr. Sorry, I have Teflon Brain Syndrome, everything slides

right off.

Kim,

I need to offer my 2 cents in your question regarding the never ending

cold.

You might want to try Garlic supplements.

I only offer my advice because it worked for me. Three weeks ago I came

down with a terrible cold. I called my Rheumatologist for advice. Her

advice was to contact my primary physician, but if he wanted to put me

on antibiodics, I would have to stop taking my Humira. Well, I didn't

make an appointment.

The next day during my chiropractic appointment, I was recommended to

take SuperGarlic 6000 tablets. It cost around $11.00 for 30 tablets.

Believe it or not, the cold virus does not like Garlic, and with in a

couple days, my sinus pressure, runny nose, and chest congestion was

gone. I have continued to take 1 tablet a day, and all that remains

with me is a slight cough.

It is a herbal supplement that promotes the health of the cardiovascular

and immune system.

Let me know if you try it and if it works for you too.

All the best to you,

(musiclvr3237)

Thank you everyone for your input.

I was looking for alternative/holistic methods, since I am under the

care of my primary for the cold. Believe it or not, it is a cold (or a

long-lasting virus) and not a bacterial infection. I'm sure the chest

congestion is encouraged by my asthma, that's partly the problem.

I am trying some of your suggestions and hoping for improvement soon.

Thank you!

Kim
