Subject: [ ] Injection

Hi All

Well WHAT a day I have survived. My appointment was at 10am and I arrived

home at 3.30pm! Considering the hospital is less than a twenty minute walk,

didn't I do WELL!

I arrived at 10am, was checked in, taken to waiting area two. At 11am I was

called to see the Surgical House Doctor, who wanted to know what I was doing

their. I told him I wanted an injection for my shoulder. HE told me he does

not do injections, that was Orthopaedic! I was sent back to the waiting

area, this time to see his Boss, Tom MacCormack! I eventually got to see

Tom, at 1pm, but that was after I chatted with Dr.Hurley, the Oncologist!

Dr.Hurley was up from Cork, the Cancer Specialist that looked after my late

father, and we had some catching up to do! Dr.Hurley has NOT lost his

fantastic sense of humour and we recounted all the FUN we had with Dad.

Anyway I went in to see Tom, who told me he did not do injections, and

walked me to a Dr.O'Carrol the Orthopaedic Doctor. At 1.30pm I was on my way

for more x-rays, just to make sure the calcification had not dissolved. Thos

x-rays were ready at 1.55pm, so back to the Orthopaedic examination room. At

3pm Dr.O'Carrol arrived, gave me the CHOICE, either have the injection, or

he would key hole scoop this calcium out. I chose the injection. Introduce

Dr.O'Carrols Registrar, who was about to give me my injection. HE got the

syringe, filled it with saline, then added the cortisone. He then noticed

the saline was 'out of date' so threw that syringe away. We went through the

same procedure, filled the syringe, changed needles and left the syringe on

the table. He then swabbed my should several times, while feeling for the

Bursa. To save time I held the syringe for him and handed it to him when he

located the joint opening. IN it went, I felt nothing, the Student Nurse

could not bear to watch. Henry thought this was GREAT fun!

I then arrived home, with orders to NOT to rest the joint! Therefore I took

Hermes tennis balls out on the large green, with Hermes and LAUNCHED a very

long shot!

Poor animal got the fright of her life as she failed to see where the ball

went, let alone where it landed. Not to worry, I tried it again and off

Hermes went. She brought the ball back, sat there looking at me as if to

say, 'You have never thrown it THAT far before'. A few more throws and I now

have one Labrador, stretched out in the hall, wondering what hit her!

In my opinion it was well worth waiting FIVE hours for a three second

injection. I can now brush my hair back, touch my left shoulder and do

wheelies with my arm. In fact I might just go swimming tonight. Feels like I

now have a new TOY to play with!

Love and God Bless

Gillian

Acupuncture might help. It did help my knees some when I was in a

clinical trial for it. At least it helped me really relax.

Good luck with your injection tomorrow. I hope it gives you some

relief. For me, the injections gave very little relief. I tried

accupuncture along with massage, and that gave very temporary

relief. Do you have sciatica? For me, the best relief was from

Alleve. Better than prescriptions at that phase. I think it reduces

the swelling around the pinched nerves.Have you tried it? Let us

know how you feel after the injection.

My wife and I used a 3/4 inch 22 gauge needle for each injection. We

rotated sites on our thighs and no where else. I lost 40 lbs and she

lost 30.....so it seemed to be effective. Just be sure to choose a

different area each time, and pick one that has the least adipose

tissue over it (fat).

:)

A sorry a,,, but Tawny ask when I take my next humira injection..

THis is about the 4 time I took it... I take one every two weeks..

Its been cloudy and rainy all day... mostly sprinkles and a few down

pours... We need rain very badly here in upstate South carolina but

it plays havac on those with arthritis... I have felt sore all day

but not a lot of pain..

I hope everyone is doing well but that is unlikely because there is

about 400 of us haaaaaaaaaaaa.... Imagine everyone writing at

once... how many people are in our group including the lurkers??

I pray your having a good day a and thank you so much for your

concern... The injections has taken almost all my pain away..

According to the group it should even get better in a few months or

so..

gentle hugs
