You know i agree with you on this. If i hadnt checked the med that my doc

wanted to put me

on id be dead. I see no harm in what you posted. If you read any articles

on line you will

see people are getting more and more overdosed on meds and things

interacting. I dont think you said anything that wasn't really true here.

Thanks Jolene! Thanks for your support. I am not trying to be

offensive by any means. Maybe what I said came out wrong....my bad

for that if that is the case.

I find it highly offensive when we are supposed to be a supportive

group and I get attacked PERSONALLY being called " uncaring and

ignorant " . Being told that I am going to scare people away from the

group. Like you said, if you hadn't checked you could have be dead,

and I experienced the same thing! It just honestly scares me when

people have long list of medications, and duplications in their uses.

I have also been critized for not addressing each person personally

with their drug interaction. Honestly, if anyone wants me to go

through each and every list and post the interactions, I'd be happy

to.....but I think that is crossing the line a little. Posts are

supposed to be generalized....

I agree to talk to your pharmacist. However the particular drug

combination that was given to me, past through two doctors and two

pharmacist hands....and no one caught it. We are human, doctor and

pharmacist alike. We have the internet, WHY NOT check?

I witnessed too many deaths personally, due to overdose or

interactions. I am not going to be quiet about it....sorry if I

offended any one in the process. I am certainly offended now and hurt.

I have to also agree with you here. I tend to be a lurker mostly because

every time I do share an opinion I too get the same response that you have

gotten.

If I listened and follow my doc like a good little patient I too would be

DEAD! From a fatal drug interaction on more than one occasion. I have also

had docs prescribe drugs which I have clearly stated I am allergic too and have

anaphylactic reactions too. One time the doc nearly killed me that way

because he prescribed a combo drug and either did not know if contacted the

part

I was allergic too or just didn't care. Even worst is that the pharmacy did

not even catch it. Again my records are clearly marked with my drug

allergies. To make it even worst I questioned the doc for 10 mins about the

drug he

was prescribing and he seemed very annoyed. I even reminded him of my drug

allergies and was these drug safe.

I took the med as soon as I picked it up...pharmacy was inside the hospital

and I was back in the ER blue with my airway about too close. The coward of

a doc that had treated me did not even say I'm sorry and refused to even come

near me. My husband was trying to hunt his sorry butt down in the ER and he

ran from him...what does that say!!! HE KNEW HE WAS WRONG!!

So as patients educating ones self is a must these days.

I agree when I was on a ton of drugs I felt like crap. I had a life

threatening problems with drug induced pneumonitis as well as electrolyte

imbalance

and many other issues while take RA meds. If I had not insisted that

something was wrong I would be DEAD. My rheummy treated me as a whiner and did

not

listen to my concerns. When it got soo bad I could not handle it anymore my

I saw my internist who was in shock at my condition and angry with the

rheummy who was treating me!! He gave my rheummy a good tongue lashing...and

lets

just say he is no longer employed by the clinic and hospital system I was

going to. He has moved on to a large city to continue his style of practicing

medicine.

I was attacked off this group by a member of this group that told me telling

my story of my drug interactions could " scare " newbie members and to stop

scaring people and being negative. How she felt the drugs were so cutting edge

and life saving and that what was a few side effects....the side effects

were well worth the benefit of the med.

I think we each have to weigh what is worth it. For me taking MTX that left

me covered with sores on every mucous membrane, living on the bathroom floor

with constant diarrhea and vomiting, dizzy all the time from electrolyte

imbalance from dehydration and risking ulcers from the vomiting is NOT worth

any

benefit the medication had because I never had any quality of life to enjoy

its benefits. Add drug induced pnuemonitis to that...and I will pass on ever

taking this drug again.

I am sorry that you were attacked or felt attacked by members of the group.

You are not alone.

Good luck on your new job. I must have missed that post. I work fulltime

and tend to just squim the posts these days.

I have sent this your personal e-mail as they I am on moderate because they

do not like unpopular opinions in this group.

Hi ,

I'm just catching up on the digests and generally just skim through

them. There are often times when doctors and even pharmacists miss

things so I think it's great that you research your drug interactions

on your own.

Also, I have an idea on a job (if you haven't found one already). I am

currently working for Western and Southern Financial Group selling

life, health, and accident insurance. I think it's great, once you are

out of training you can really set your own schedule and work from home

if that works well for you, and the hours are flexible, however there

are nights you have to meet with clients late. They were great about

knowing that I do have RA and they really didn't seem to care.

I hope this helps :)

I am usually a lurker, but I have to come out an support you on this

one! It is very important to be aware of drug interactions, I work

in the medical field and trust me this is an issue...it is not always

the doctor who is in the wrong since a lot of patients do not

disclose all the medications that they are on. It is a good idea for

patients to bring all of the medications they take to doctor's

appointments. Doctor's are not psychic and many patients are being

treated by multiple doctors for multiple conditions. (sorry, to get

on a soapbox there)

Additionally, the reason I have remained a lurker is that the members

of this group do not seem very receptive to veiws that are not just

like theirs. I, too, have posted a couple of times with very little

response.

As to you job search, good luck!

Keep up the good fight.

No individual broke any rules, Jolene.

I do wish that group members would consider, before posting, whether

their comments may have a needlessly negative impact on others.

I think the moderator(s) showed perfect judgment.

If someone's feelings were hurt, it's unfortunate and if someone feels the

need to apologize for something they posted, that's their right.

I speak for myself when I say that I would never intentionally post anything

to hurt anyone. I am the owner of another group and understand that

people are so different and may sometimes read something into a post that is

not there. Many times, posts are misunderstood or taken out of context.

We all have different backgrounds, educations, family situations, etc. What

we all do have in common is RA and I came here for information and support.

I think that the entire matter should be laid to rest and everyone move

forward toward a single purpose...being part of a group. We all have to be

tolerant of many things in life and this is no exception.

In my endo's office and my rheumy's, there are signs that say to bring

in all of your medications to each appointment. My doctors don't

require me to do this, because I typed up a list of all of mine and

gave it to the nurses. Then if anything has changed, I tell them about

it. At both places, they have everything on computer, so it's very easy

for them to update it.

I am on multiple mailing lists and get over 100 messages most days.

This means that I cannot possibly respond to every message. Also, I

have to just skim some messages. That does not mean that I don't care.
