Re: A Sleep Question...

Yeah. It happens to me a lot. I blame the prednisone, sometimes my

brain just won't quit, but I actually think it may be more than that.

And, yes, the tireder I am, the worse it is. My doc has given me a

bunch of stuff, but no sleep aids as I'm really afraid of my reaction

to them. So far, Lyrica is working the best. I take 75 mg about an

hour before bedtime, and it makes me drowsy. No surprise, I had to

quit taking it in the AM because it makes me so drowsy. I also take

20mg of Celexa, as that makes the Lyrica work at a lower dose.

My internist said it's ok to take Benadryl every now and then to help

get to sleep. A hot bath helps, but a shower wakes me up. Go figure.

(hmmm - can you take baths? doubt it).

I feel guilty, too, because I'm so restless most nights, I know I keep

Bill (my hubby) awake because he's a really light sleeper. Our

partners may not have our disorders, but they sure do have our

problems, don't they? Those of us with understanding partners and

families are truly blessed.

I hope you find something that works for you, because I can imagine

how tired you must be when you're not sleeping well. At least I'm

semi-retired and have an understanding boss (hubby and I have our own

business).

Gentle hugs to you,

I know I am truly blessed. For one thing, my Rod is a saint. I hate to say

that, but it's true. He never complains, never gets angry, roles with all the

punches, takes everything in stride, goes above and beyond the call of duty, :)

to make my life easier and as pain free as possible. For another, he also has

Fibro and " mild Lupus " .

I was on Lyrica for my Fibro and neuropathy... I took a whopping 200mg three

times daily, for a total of 600mg. It definitely made me sleepy!

Unfortunately, as it did nothing for my pain, my doc took me off of it. It also

gave me some other really nasty unwanted side effects.

I would tend to blame my...I call them " sleep twitches " , on pred, except for the

fact that I don't take pred that often, and when I do, I only need the

occasional 20mg pill. I never take it in bursts...I just don't need to.

Can I take baths? Absolutely. Although, I have to be real careful because of

my burnt skin.

Dodge and Group;

I have been through similar Dodge and I was the type who loved to

sleep all the time. I would just get to sleep and wake up wide awake

a few hours. Similar to you. I would get to sleep but unlike you I

could sleep a couple hours. Still thats not enough sleep for anyone. I

am speaking of a 24 hour period. I went to mental health cause at

the time my dad passed away.

The doctor at mental health put me on effexor for depression and xanax

to help me sleep. It worked good. I am taking a half of xanax now to

wean me off of it. I sleep fine now. I hope you find what can help

you since your on a lot of narcartics.

gentle hugs

Dodge,

Yes, this is something I suffered from for a long time until 1994,

My doc at the time put me on Trazadone to take at night and she

described it as a muscle relaxant to help me sleep. But recently I

found out that it's an antidepressent but works in a different way

than the Zoloft I take in the morning. It makes you relaxed body and

mind and genltly brings sleep. Takes from 30 - 60 min. I started

with 50 mgs and since my body is very sensative to drugs that work on

the central nervous system, I slowly worked up to 150 mg by 2006

after my breast cancer treatment. Of all the meds I take, this the

one I could not live without because this is the best sleep I can

get. I took Ambien with it during treatment and it helped at that

time but it is not something I would take daily. I take Xanex once

in a while also, but it can be addictive. Trazadone is not addictive

nor narcotic, but you get dependent on it for sleep. Hope this helps

and good luck.

Hi Stella:

Thanks for the input. Yes, I am very familiar with Trazadone. It gave me some

nasty side effects that I didn't like, like major irritability, so I stopped it.

Glad to know I'm not going crazy, though.
