A Sleep Question...

Hey all:

I know I have been doing more asking than answering of late, and for that, I

apologize. I am having trouble with my ISPs webmail, which is making it very

difficult for me to read mail, as it is only loading like one email message

every five-ten minutes. Anyway, I have another question.

Before I ask, let me say that I have been tested for sleep apnea *four* times...

Every time, I came out with a *definite* no. So, I don't have that.

I know that a lot of us with Fibro have trouble getting enough stage IV sleep.

Here's what happens to me. I will lie down and begin to go to sleep. I will

start to drift off to sleep and be just conscious enough to realize, " Hey Dodge,

you're drifting off to sleep. " I will usually think " good " or some other

thought like that, and then... BAM!!! I will be back to full wakefulness.

I never feel out of breath, short of breath, or like I'm not getting air... I

just feel... Annoyed. This doesn't happen every night. In fact, oddly enough,

it happens on the nights when I am most tired and feel like my body and mind

both need restful sleep. I am a believer in sleep hygiene, so after about

twenty minutes of this, I get up, waste time for up to an hour, and then try

again.

My questions are... Does anyone else go through what I have described? Did

your doc put you on medication for it? What medications have you tried and what

works best?

My doc will pretty much give me whatever narcs I want, but is hesitant to

prescribe *me* sleep meds. Perhaps because I take so many different narcotics.

He did prescribe Zanaflex, which I don't like, either for sleep or for muscle

relaxant. Before that, I was taking Soma for both, and that worked better. I'm

going to ask him to switch back, as the Zanaflex in the doseage range he has

allowed me either, a. does nothing, b. makes me drunk and does nothing, or c.

makes me halucinate and does nothing.

I know that this drifting-off-to-sleep-coming-awake-suddenly thing keeps me up,

and that keeps Rod up and I feel guilty...
