Dear forum,

Greetings from BNP+.

It is really shocking news. Again we faced the discrimination from Medical

Collage Hospital of Kolkata.

Today (22/05/2007) Sunil (name Changed) One of our member from West

MidnapurDistrict. He is staying Ghatal (most high risk area).By profession he is

Gold . He is working in kolkata. He has one daughter and son.

He came to STM (School Of tropical Medicine) because of his serious condition.

He was under Dr. Goswami of STM Kolkata. Dr. Goswami suggest him for admission

in Kolkata Medical collage because the unavailabity of bed in STM.

One of our community members was there who is working with Arunima Hospice as a

out reach worker. He took him in the kolkata Medical Collage.

That ORW discussed with Deputy Medical Officer. That time he was refusing. After

a little bit argument with that ORW that DMO prescribed him for admission. But

the attended asked 200/- for admission. Because of the financial problem Mr.

Sunil denied to pay that money. Then that attendant told that there is no beds

in that hospital and that attendant also suggested that go to home.To see this

situation that ORW went to meet again with that DMO. But that previous DMO’s

shift was changed. The new DMO clearly told that no bed is available. When that

ORW trying to convince him for admission and also Mr. Sunil requested him that

time that DMO dash Mr. Sunil and he fall down in that serious condition. Lastly

that ORW took him in Hospice.

Some questions are coming to my mind

1) So many sensitization Programmes are going on but again discrimination in

the Kolkata Medical Collage where Doctors are getting training. Are those

training Programmes are meaningless?

2) All those people who are awared they are telling that PLWHA’s has the full

right to get treatment. But really are we getting it?

3) Govt.hospitals is for all. We supposed to get treatment when free bed is

available. But there is full of corruption. Because attendants are charging

money for the free bed. Is that the right place for business? So we can say

there is no difference between Nursing home and Govt. Hospital.

One thing we can tell you that from BNP+ side we will go long way against it. We

will see the end.For that we want your full support. Because recently we did a

meeting with Super and also with the MSVP regarding denial of the treatment.

So can we tell that meeting was meaningless? Because it happened again today.

With Regards,
