Guest guest
I have really enjoyed your posts Rick. I am a new list member so I am not too familiar, but guessing that your daughter is an adult that doesn't live at home with you. Most of the parents I know have young children. The future is always uncertain with any child with or without DS, but it makes me feel happy to read about your relationship with your daughter and I hope one day to have the same with all my children. Guest guest
Way to Go Gretchen! Are you on a high protein, high starch diet? Whatever it is, it seems to be working for you! I also do some catching up at night or early morning otherwise I am scrambling with my daughter for computer time. I'm glad you had a great day! Good for you girl. Guest guest
, How long ago was your daughter implanted before swithing to the BTE? I just hope it is a small thing that the audi can fix. Please keep us informed of what they found> Bill > > Okay, I don't even know what to say other than I believe every CI patient's worst nightmare just came through for us. Annika went to bed early last night so she woke up early today. I thought what a great start, she will be pleasant getting dressed this morning and we can get going on time this a.m. Well, I put on both her implants so she could watch a little bit of cartoons before I had to finish getting her ready. Just popped them on and thought I would worry about it later. > > Of course, my boys did not get up on time and so I was a little rushed by the time we got back to Annika. I put on her left implant and she wasn't responding to me at all. Okay, is she being just a stubborn 3 year old and ignoring me. So we put on the right side. She did her ling check just like that. Okay, back to the left side. Still nothing. Okay, let's see check her headpiece and cable. Well, that didn't make any difference. At this point, I have forgotten that I have the BWP still around that we could do something with. My thought is just that it was the hardware-bad processor. > > So started to take her to school and made a call to her audiologist. Said that I think we are having some problems can we see you today? I will take her in and let her staff at school do some trouble shooting in case I had forgotten something(we just switched to the BTE a little over a month ago). We get to school and still nothing on that left side. She is still talking and responding because the right side is working fine. > > So to the audi we go. Still in my mind it is just the hardware. Well, we were there an hour and the longer we were in the room the more things changed. We believe that Annika had internal device failure on the left side. It is intermittent so it might have been going for a few days now. We have to do one more test with a rep from AB and I am waiting for the phone call from the audi re this. But they are still going to try to get her a slot on the surgery schedule just in case. Both Josie and the on-call audi from AB really think that we are having a problem. > > The only thing that is keeping my sanity is that I know that she will still hear from the one side and we hopefully won't lose any time during this process. I will keep you posted. Oh yeah, on top of it all, I get a call from the nurse at the boys' school. My 13 year old had vomitted and needs to be picked up. I am about 70 miles from him at this point and cannot do anything. Thank goodness for his grandparents!!!! > > Mom of 4 > Marcus 15 > 13 > Jon 11 > Annika 3 > Bilaterally implant 3/1/04 > Hookup 3/25/04 > spastic diaplegic CP > >
Guest guest
Oh no, ! Hope the problem can be remedied without the need for reimplantation.
Guest guest
She had been implanted for about 1 1/2 year before we switched to the BTE. The main reason was because she has balance issues with her CP and we wanted to ease the amount of weight she was carrying. We have seen an improvement with balance but now we go with this. The longer it takes the more I think we won't be looking at an easy fix. I can always hope but I did put on her BWP like requested and it worked for about a minute after putting it on and then nothing. They are still trying to get things set up with the rep from AB so either I will know in the next 1/2 hour or I will hear something tomorrow morning. I have to go to the U of MN for a rehab session anyway so hopefully we can work something out while we are there. She still may have to see the surgeon tomorrow too. Time will only tell. Guest guest
You really don't want to do that. One, you'll have a backache like you wouldn't believe. And I've heard hysterectomies are counterproductive to weight loss, anyway. Now, there is a procedure where they effectively put in a balloon and 'scald' your uterine walls and you don't have periods anymore, but I think that's used to treat a problem with insanely heavy periods, not just to get rid of them. Guest guest
That's part of the problem--over the last 5+ years, in between having kids and then after the last one, I've had problems with really hard periods. The first couple days are almost unbearable. I don't like taking medications for any reason (unless I have to), and without a regular dose of 800mg ibuprofen every 5-6 hours, I can barely move. I go through an overnight pad in less than an hour. It really is miserable. And I guess it's in the back of my mind that my mom had similar problems after having us kids, and got so bad that eventually, by age 35, she was to the point of 2-3 weeks of heavy bleeding out of the month. She wound up having her uterus out. I'll explore other options first, though. Thanks for telling me about that new procedure...definitely something to ask about. -Bonnie > Now, there is a procedure where they effectively put in a balloon and 'scald' your uterine > walls and you don't have periods anymore, but I think that's used to treat a problem with > insanely heavy periods, not just to get rid of them. > > SulaBlue >

I'm in my menopausal years now and it *does* get better! > Is this normal weight loss type stuff or > what? Anyone else have their cycle thrown off while losing weight? Ugh. It's possible. You can't go by me because the only time I was regular was when I was on oral progesterone, but remember, your estrogen is stored in your fat cells. When you lose weight, those cells shrink, so it would only be natural for some of that estrogen that's getting squeezed out to start floating around your bloodstream, right? And of course, excess estrogen can cause your cycle to do crazy things. Then again, since you're already in your 30's you could be starting down the road to your own Changes and hormone fluctuations. These can start 10 or more years before The End before getting really irregular the last 5 or so years. Sue in NJ
Guest guest
> I > go through an overnight pad in less than an hour. It really is > miserable. That's how mine were since I started at age 12 or so until, well, it was still like that when I last had it in November. The first 3 days are horrible and heavy, then they would lighten up each day afterwards and stop on the 7th or 8th day. Some months I would spot in mid-cycle, other months I would get a whole week of bleeding, just like 2 weeks before. When I was put on the oral progesterone that time I was up to one week of bleeding, one week not, and after about 3 months of that I started one day and didn't stop until 21 days later. That's when the doc said something had to be done and he put me on the pills. > she was to the point of 2-3 weeks of heavy bleeding out of > the month. She wound up having her uterus out. I'll explore other > options first, though. A few months of the oral progesterone helped me a lot. After that I was almost on a regular 29 day cycle for a number of years. Then I started getting wonky again, the beginnings of the Change, and I had a choice to either live with it or go on birth control pills, but with the history of heart disease and breast cancer in the family the doc didn't want me to take the BC pills, so I lived with it. Guest guest
~ I'm so sorry that you are feeling so unwell. It sounds as if you are being stretched in so very many directions. Take good care of yourself..... induldge yourself.... crochet if it makes you feel better. Your mental health is so very important. If you were told NOT to be alone and dh can't stay, find someone to stay with you.... maybe a friend or family member. If that isn't an option then you NEED to tell your psychiatrist that you WILL be alone and don't have a choice about it. Let the doctor help you in deciding what to do about it. I'm so glad that you are reaching out for help. warmly, Kim On 4/19/07, laurabutler6@... <laurabutler6@...> wrote: > > It has not been a good day today. Guest guest
Hi , Sorry to hear you were having a rough day the other day. You mention not being able to be alone (at times) when your hubby is at work. Do you have family or friends that you can stay with in those instances, or are there any programs you can go to? I am glad you have crochet to keep your hands and mind busy. (( Hugs )) See what's free at AOL.com.
Guest guest
As I sat here this morning, watching the bunnies and squirrels playing outside my window, my dogs running around just like my children did when they were little, Listening to sounds of Fall, tractors out and about, the smells of freshly harvested fields, and leaves turning colors. A sense of peace washed over my body. Even the sick feeling from this mornings chemo took longer to set in. I wish I could have sat like that all day. But of course sitting for extended periods is one of my triggers for a flare up and the sick stomach from chemo is inevitable every Monday and Tuesday. I praise God daily for those little things we all still have in our lives though. Those are the moments that keep me going from day to day. I am going to go lie down now and rest so I can maybe feel well enough to cook and visit with my husband some tonite. Vicki Iowa

Guest guest
Hi everyone; I have been dealing with a migraine all day. I hope the doctor gives me something better than these lortabs. I had to take 2 about an hour ago just to get the migraine bearable. I go next week to get refills at the docs for my migrains. I am telling him to give me something else these don't work. I feel so miserable with this migrains every day. They never stop unless I lie down in a dark room and than they dont stop they are only bearable. She put me on Volteran for the osteo and they work pretty good. I don't have as much pain in my lower back. My neck still hurts. I do some exercises that help some. I know we all suffer from some pain here and I am so sorry. I have faith in God and I still keep praying I know he will prevail. I take my humira shot friday for the RA. It helps so much. THere seems to be some pain all the time but it is manageable now. I remember how mad Barbara got when I first came to the group a few months ago. She got so upset my rheumy wasn't helping me and her anger made me talk to my rheumy to get more agressive with my RA. Wow she did. I pray everyone has pain free day and I pray for a cure for all arthritis. God bless everyone and take care. gentle hugs Clora ************************************************************* > Hi Kami....I wasa diagnosed with l/s back in 2005..... always something to > add to our already growing list. > > Hugs..a > > > ************** > Play online games for FREE at Games.com! Guest guest
Clora, Honey, I am so sorry that you are having to endure that pain. I sure hope your doctor gives you something that works! I have a friend that takes a pill when she feels one coming on and it makes the headaches so much better. I don't know what it is, but I could as if you want me to. Maybe you could ask your doctor about it. Much love coming your way. I hope you are feeling much better soon. Shirley > > > > Hi everyone; > > I have been dealing with a migraine all day. Guest guest
Clora, Does your physician know how bad your headaches are and that you have them every day? Guest guest
You're making me hungry! Lol. Sounds like a wonderful day of good eats. elisaannh -- My day Hi everyone. I'm just coming in to write about my day. Today brekfast 2 hardboiled eggs, and a bowl of Fiber 1 cereal. For a mid morning snack, one hardboiled egg. Lunch, some deli roast beef and cheese. For a mid afternoon snack, I stopped and got a apple pecan chicken salad at 's. I ate the pecans for a snack. For supper I had the chicken apple and pecan salad, it had cheese, crazens, and lettuces. It came with pomegranate vinegrete dressing which I didn't put on. I just ate the salad plain. Drank water today. I have practice at church tonight so I'll do my workout when I get back and if I get hungry I'll eat the rest of the salad. There's mostly lettuce left in it.
