Guest guest
Your reaction is what I call " prednisone crazies " Try orange juice and be kind to yourself. Do discuss with your physician. ali3787 <ali3787@...> wrote: I am on 10 mg prednisone right now and it makes me feel really on edge. I am shaking and extremely irritable. Guest guest
Hello Ali, Poor you! Yes, you can certainly blame the prednisolone for this effect! Just knowing and recognising that it it is 'not you', and having something external to blame, might help you (and family)cope while on it so you can get its antiinflammatory benefits. I posted on this topic quite recently, I will try and check under which thread. It certainly tends to put some people in 'overdrive', sometimes very productively in the short term! They just have to make sure they don't overdo it. In many others the effect can be very distressing with mood swings and irritable mood, and sleeplessness. You obviously are sensitive to this as 10mg is not a very large dose for acute management. Still, in any case like any unpleasnt side effect you should get individual advice about it from your own doctor. Hope this helps, Good luck retired doc UK,has friend with RA, no computer From: ali3787 <ali3787@...> Subject: [ ] Really on edge Date: Thursday, 14 August, 2008, 3:31 PM I am on 10 mg prednisone right now and it makes me feel really on edge. Guest guest
Thank you for your encouragement. I got like this the last time I was on it too and once the mtx kicked in I didn't have to be on the pred anymore. I just can't wait for the mtx to work! I feel like my blood sugar is constantly falling so I am trying to keep up with protein and whole grains. Nice to hear from a retired doc. Guest guest
Just remember that you can't just suddenly stop taking it; it has to be tapered down. Hopefully your rheumy will have some good advice. Sue On Thursday, August 14, 2008, at 10:31 AM, ali3787 wrote: > I am on 10 mg prednisone right now and it makes me feel really on > edge. Guest guest
Thanks Sue. I am still so new to RA and trying to figure it all out. Every little bit helps. Guest guest
Ali, prednisone raises blood sugar. Sometimes blood sugar drops as a rebound effect from having gone very high. If it is, eating fewer carbs might help. When I was on prednisone, it seemed to know when I ate carbs, so I had to eat even fewer than I normally do as a diabetic. Guest guest
Hi Ali - I pray you got a satisfactory response from your rheumy. I hate taking prednisone for just the reasons that you are describing - especially the mood swings. I feel like a rabid dog just waiting to take a chunk out of someone when I am on prednisone. How many doses of the 10mg have you had? My only advise would be to cut the pill in half and see if that makes any difference. Keep us posted. We care.....Doreen > > I am on 10 mg prednisone right now and it makes me feel really on > edge. I am shaking and extremely irritable.
