Guest guest
, I take 900 mg of Neurontin a day. I have for over 2 years. This was prescribed for my neuropathy and it is usually used for neurological problems. It is also commonly prescribed for epilepsy. I guess it is also used for fibromyalgia and I think a number in our group have been diagnosed with that so should have more information for you. Neurontin sometimes makes you sleepy, but 100 mg is a very low dose. Even my 900 mg is considered low for neurological problems. I was put on Lyrica at one point, but it made me feel spaced out so I went right back to Neurontin within 2 or 3 days. I hope that someone can relay their experience with Neurontin and fibro. Good luck, Dorothy _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of jaayimee Sent: Thursday, August 14, 2008 5:51 PM Subject: [ ] It just keeps coming- Neurontin questions Hi all. Well since my rheumys blood test showed my vitamin D at 29 he tols me to take a supplement and then see how it affects the different joint pain and such. Well, as you can imagine, I was pretty upset with that because I am hurting so I made an appointment with my internist and saw her today. I told her about a new pain I have been having and some memory issues. I really can't explain the pain. It starts at my neck and just radiates through my body. I would have it every once in awhile before and every time I would sneeze but now it has shown up constantly for abot a month. Anyways she said fibromyalgia. I'm not sure if I spelled it rght but she said that she is really leaning that way with everything coming up normal and the pain I am describing and some thing about pressure points. So, I am now on a drug called Neurontin. She started me out at 100mg a day since I am so sensitive to meds and we will see how it affects me and increase from there. So, who has been or is on this med and what do I expect. Do I expect to feel better quickly? And what about side effects? She wants me on Lyrica but said my insurance will require we try this first. Thank you,
Guest guest
, I was started on Neurontin for IC. a bladder disease, it helps dull the nerves to the bladder. My pain mgt Dr also kept upping the dose to help with the Fibro pain. I think it helps, its not one of those you can just stop if you want to. It has to be tapered down. I take 2700 mg a day and was told be a friend that his Neuro has patients that take up to 5000mg a day ( that is usually for those with seizures however.) The only side effect I had from it was it made me a bid drowsy at first but no longer. Or if it does there is no way to tell if its the culprit or one of the other bazillion pills I take is LOL> Good luck and I hope it works well for you. Guest guest
Hi - I take Neurontin for my Fibromyalgia, too. My Rheumy started me out at 600mg at night only (I also have restless legs). Now he's increased me to 3 times daily and the only side effects I ever had was some foot swelling in the very beginning, but that went away in a few days. It does make me sleepy at times, but I don't drive that often anymore, so its not an issue. When I was increased to the 3x per day dosage, I noticed an improvement almost immediately. I am nowhere near normal now, but I would say the Fibromyalgia pain is considerably better than without the Neurontin. Hope that helped to answer your question............Doreen > > Hi all. Guest guest
, I didn't receive the relief from Neurontin that was wanted. The Lyrica has helped me for the fibromyalgia but has led to significant weight gain, which is not so good for the RA.I wanted to tell you of my experiences with the two drugs.Hopefully, there will be more posts on this subject.Hope you get relief from one of the two. Guest guest
KS - don't feel bad about the weight gain with Lyrica. I gained back every single one of the 8 pounds I had lost when they upped my Neurontin. I just can't win for losing with my weight - I'm at 303 now . At least the med is working somewhat for the FMS - otherwise that would have been a double insult....Doreen > > , > I didn't receive the relief from Neurontin that was wanted. The Lyrica > has helped me for the fibromyalgia but has led to significant weight > gain, which is not so good for the RA.I wanted to tell you of my > experiences with the two drugs.Hopefully, there will be more posts on > this subject.Hope you get relief from one of the two. >
