Weird Pain?

Hi Y'all:

I've been having some weird pain over the past few months, in addition to my

normal pain. I would like to describe it, and get some input. I realize that

medical advice can't be given, and I am not looking for that, as such. What I

am looking for, however, is people who have had similar pain to the kinds I will

describe, or people who have heard about it. With all the pain I have every

day, it is very unnerving to me to have more, as yet undiagnosed, pain. Inh

fact, it unnerves me so much, that it has been keeping me from sleeping. With

my job, nothing keeps me from sleeping. Now, staying asleep is a different

story... So, here I go...

The first type of pain is like an itching pain. It is not accompanied by

anything visible on the skin. Even though it is an itching pain, it is not an

itch. It feels like one, but it is *definitely* painful. It occurs at all

times of the day, but quite often when I am laying down. It occurs whether or

not I have taken my medications, and is not aleviated by narcotic pain

medications or medications for nerve pain.

The second pain is a downright burning pain. This pain occurs mostly in my

knees, and is usually accompanied by heat, redness and inflamation. Now, I do

have Ankylosing Spondylitis with peripheral joint involvement, and I am inflamed

a lot and have quite a bit of pain due to that... This is not that pain... It

is different. It, too occurs at any time but is more apt to occur after I have

been standing for long periods or performing some kind of physical activity,

i.e. transporting a patient, walking, running, working on a patient, etc. This

pain occurs whether or not I have taken my meds, but it is aleviated by narcotic

pain medications.

The third kind is one I don't get very often, however it has come up a few times

in the past little while. It is the type of pain one feels if you have a

splinter. A sharp, localized pain. There is nothing visible on the skin. This

pain occurs at any time, and is usually localized to my back, thighs and arms.

It occurs whether or not I have taken my medications, and is not aleviated by

either type of medications...

Any thoughts?

I can only say that I have neuropathy in one leg and I have never

experienced such odd sensations of pain in my life. There is burning,

stinging, electric shock-type sensations. There is dull pain, sharp pain,

and at the same time, numbness. Some of the sensations can't even be

described.

Have you been to a neurologist for a full workup?

Lately I get these weird sharp stabbing pains here and there. Fortunately, they

only last a moment. I'm not sure what they are. I'm 55. Tiny blood vessels pop

and leave little red dots. I have small brown and what patches in various spots.

I am degenerating before my eyes.

This is probably not much help to you.

I really like your signature comment about a skeptic.
