Guest guest
Ihis may be a long shot but I suggest you check thyroid function. Just google it and see if it feels right. I have the opposite problem. People claim I live in an igloo. I am always too hot. It is a thyroid and liver issue with me. God bless.... Raniolo From: keptoz <keptoz@...> Subject: [ ] Re-introducing myself & need advice please... Date: Saturday, October 18, 2008, 11:00 PM Hi everyone - My name is - I'm 39 & have been struggling with RA for about a year & a half now. I've only posted a few times here, but I do read through all the posts daily. You have no idea how so many of you have helped me with your posts. I'm not able to post a lot b/c my hands are constantly sore, so I hope you don't mind my lurking mostly. But I do have something that I would love some feedback on... On the advice of friends & my Dr, I started taking aqua therapy classes at my local YMCA geared for arthritis. Its been one month now & I go twice a week. Everytime I get in the water, everyone says how warm the water is & how good they feel, but I am FREEZING - shivering & numb. My fingers tips turn white & there have been a few times I've had to leave the pool early b/c the pain from the numbness was so awful. On the advice of my teacher, I started wearing lycra pants & tops in the water (sort of like scuba gear) to keep the heat in, but it doesn't seem to work. Also its takes me 2-3 days to fully warm back up ( & then its time to get back in the pool). I keep overdressing my poor 2 yr old b/c I'm freezing & I don't realize how hot he really is until I see the sweat on him! Anyway, I know I need to call my dr, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Just as an aside, I do historically have low iron & low blood pressure, so I'm wondering if the sulfasalazine (that I started at the same time as the swim classes) are dropping my levels even further? I was really hoping the swim classes were going to be soothing, but I don't know how long I can continue like this...
Guest guest
Hi : I too did a water class for arthritis. The pool was 93, cool/warm. But the a.c. was on and I too had to leave the pool due to being cold. By the time I got my swim suit off, I was shaking and freezing. I was that way all the way home, and took a hot shower when I got home. I had to finally stop going to these classes. The Rheumy said I was defeating all the good I did for my RA. I assume I got cold from the a.c. when my shoulders were out of the water. The floor tiles from the pool to the shower room were ceramic and very, very cold. I have a low thyroid condition, and have problems with heat and cold. I loved this water class, but had to give it up. I live in south west Florida and it is always hot here, so it was not due to the weather. I hope this info. helps you. Wishing you pain free days, and I hope your hands feel better soon. I am sure they are very hard to use when you are in bad pain. Hugs, Barbara > > Hi everyone - My name is - I'm 39 & have been struggling with RA > for about a year & a half now. Guest guest
Hi - glad to see you posting. I don't know about the temps in the pool at your YMCA, but I was under the impression the water was in the low to mid 80's. For me, if our pool is below 88º, I can't go in because it makes me ache, too. 90º is actually the best, but even at that I get cold after half an hour or so. Hope this helps. Oh! And we don't mind the lurking, but definitely love the posts, too. Best of luck to you........Doreen > > Hi everyone - My name is - I'm 39 & have been struggling with > RA for about a year & a half now.
