Guest guest
Hello all, I had my myo on Dec 12 - overall, I had an excellent experience. I received several e-mails prior to my surgery with advice and tips, and would like to pass on a few things that might help others that have upcoming surgery. First of all, for anyone who lives in British Columbia, my surgery was done by Dr Elissa McMurtie in and I can't say enough about her. She can to see me at least once a day during my stay in the hospital and only released me when she had a guarantee that someone was going to be able to prepare meals for me once I got home (yay Mom!). Secondly, pain was almost(see below) a non-issue for me. I have a fairly large vertical incision (to 1/2 " below navel) and at worst, I felt like I was having bad menstrual cramps. I received Demerol on a PCA (I'm allergic to morphine) and also was given suppositories that were an anti-inflammitory as well as for pain relief. I don't remember what they were called, unfortunately, but they really made receiving a suppository a most welcome experience! Thirdly, I was given an anti-nausea drug which made a world of difference. It's called Xofran (I think) and it's usually given to relieve nausea in chemotherapy patients. I understand it's quite expensive, so may not be an option for some of you in the States, but definitely ask! Vomitting was an excuriatingly painful experience and this medication made the recovery process much easier. From the posts, it sounds like many of you out there are having some unpleasant experiences. Best of luck to everyone.
