Guest guest
Melynda, I am so sorry to hear about your neice. I hope she gets a great doctor. I don't know about others, but I discussed my symptoms and areas where I had pain and asked what I could do to help. When I first started seeing the rhuemmy, I walked a couple of miles several times a week. When my ankles started hurting she stopped me from those walks. She said pain was an indication that something was going on and over stressing those areas would lead to further damage. I hope this helps. Guest guest
So sorry to hear this, Melynda. Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis is different from adult-onset rheumatoid arthritis, so you and/or Bianca might want to join a JRA group. Do you know what type of JRA she was diagnosed with? Many children with JRA will outgrow it by adulthood. http://www.arthritis.org/chapters/north-central/juvenile-arthritis.php http://kidshealth.org/kid/health_problems/bone/juv_rheum_arthritis.html http://arthritis.about.com/od/jra/Juvenile_Arthritis_Cause_Diagnosis_Symptoms_Tr\ eatment.htm http://www.childrenshospital.org/az/Site1196/mainpageS1196P0.html juvenile arthritis JuvenileRheumaticDiseases Not an MD On Fri, Oct 24, 2008 at 4:02 PM, Melynda Gamez <melyndagamez@...> wrote: > gina & ra members, i just recently found out that my 16 yr.old cousin has > been dx w/jra. she needs our help if u can PLEASE???? > > i have been on so many meds. since my onset 33yrs. ago. > > she sees the rheummy monday. here's the deal... Guest guest
Melynda, I'm so very sorry about your cousin. I know its very hard to watch a young child go through this. You have been through so much for a long time. You will be able to help her. I'm glad she has you to help her through this time. Keep us posted, Tawny --- In , Melynda Gamez <melyndagamez@...> wrote: > > gina & ra members, i just recently found out that my 16 yr.old cousin has been dx w/jra. she needs our help if u can PLEASE???? > > i have been on so many meds. since my onset 33yrs. ago. > > she sees the rheummy monday. here's the deal... Guest guest
Hi Melynda: I am so sorry to read about Bianca having JRA. I know how badly you feel, and I know you will be a great comfort to her in the days ahead. A good friend of mine, her daughter was diagnosed with JRA many years ago, and she has totally outgrown her JRA. She was the JRA poster child in Mass. when she was 2. Hopefully, Bianca will outgrow it too. Bianca is lucky to have you in her life, and I know you will be able to help her in the rough days ahead. She already knows you have RA, and therefore, you already know what she is dealing with. You will be great support and a good comfort to her. I am praying extra for her tonight. I hope she willl start to feel better soon, once she starts the RA meds. God Bless the both of you, and I send my love to you. You have been a great friend to me, and I am glad for our special friendship. God does work in mysterious ways..... we met here!! When I was in the hosp., for so long, your phone call to me was the most wonderful surprise, and I could feel your love for me over the phone. Just amazing, just as you are a most amazing woman, wife, and mother. No wonder God sent you Alyssa!! You are always in my prayers, as is so many of you here. I hope you will be feeling better soon, and out of your constant pain. I pray you have a good night tonight, and tomorrow will be a pain free day for you. You need it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
I was diagnosed with JRA at the age of 16. I have always had symptoms of both JRA and RA. As soon as I saw my rheummy for the first time (which luckily was 2 weeks after diagnosis) she immediately started me on methotrexate, and enbrel. I was already on prednisone, and naproxen. I'm not sure about her situation, but they had me cut back on what I did in sports at the time. They told me to only do what I felt I could do. I did finish and letter in basketball, track, and cheerleading, and I kept riding and showing horses and I lifted weights as long as I wasn't in too much pain. Ask about what she can do to exercise and what support groups are out there. Where is she? Just be sure to tell her to not give up. She can live a " normal " life. They told me when I first saw them that with the progression in medicine in the past 10 years (now it would be 18 years) that I wouldn't have to worry about my life changing drastically and that I wouldn't be wheel chair bound until 25 at the earliest (I'm now about to turn 24 and doing great!) I think that a positive attitude can go a really long way in helping with staying healthy and relatively pain free. She can't let this disease beat her, she has to stay positive and count her blessings that this isn't a disease that kills and there is hope. ~Autumn

Guest guest
Don't worry about getting in all the protein this soon. There was no way at 2 weeks out that I could get 60-70 grams in. I just waited until I got to solids to really try and get it in. You can only do the best that you can do. I lost about 18 lbs in the first 2 weeks but everyone loses differently. I hit stalls ALL the time. I am 3 months out now and down 42 lbs. I sometimes go weeks without losing a lb, then in one weekend I will lose 5-6 lbs. I have even gained a couple lbs then a couple weeks later the lbs I gained will come back off. It does get frustrating but the best advise Nina gave me was to be patient. Give it time, it will come off. I thought that I was doing something wrong too but it's just your body adjusting to all these changes.Take Care!
