Hi - your thoughts on RA and the auto-immune system were

enlightening. You said " ...the auto immune make up, is perhaps

likely to have developed from drive to survival in response to

repeated external infections in pre antibiotic eras. Producing these

responses successfully aided survival.... "

It would stand to reason that emotional as well as physical stresses

and traumas also trigger that same auto-immune response, yet in a

bigger way (RA/FMS). Interesting how the body tries to compensate

when things go awry. I enjoy reading your posts as they come to us

from your medical perspective.....Doreen :)

certain 'modern' diseases may occur in some people more than others

precisely because they have a genetic makeup that gave their distant

ancestors survival advantage in the distant past. One good example is

the sickle cell carrier blood trait which appeared to give advantage

in malarial zones, their red cells weren't so accommodating to the

parasite to grow in.

> The tendency to obesity/type 2 diabetes also may represent

preferential survival of people handing on a genetic make-up giving

advantage in distant times of famine/ hardship.. compare the camel's

hump?! Not so suited to today's off the shelf society unfortunately

(hardly hunter/gatherer!)

in pre antibiotic eras.Producing these responses successfully aided

survival.
