Guest guest
Hi Barbara Thanks so much for your reply - from the sound of it; it won't be anything like as bad as I was expecting! I'm having it done on 10th Nov, so cross your fingers for me then Could I ask you - do you find that it equally effective each time you have the shot or has the effectiveness reduced with subsequent shots? I'm wondering as the first time I had one in my hand; the relief lasted some months; I have just had it redone and the effects have only lasted weeks this time. Hugs and thanks from Elaine Hi Elaine: I have had the cortisone shot done several times on my back. By the next day all pain was gone. My back pain didn't return for quite some time. My back dr. froze the area, and gave me the shot. Very little pain from it. I highly recommend this procedure. It gave me so much relief. Wishing you pain free days, and good luck if you decide to take the shot. Hugs, Barbara .
Guest guest
Hi Barbara Thanks so much for your words of encouragement; I'm counting down the days now until it's done. What's really frustrating is that I've tried hard to lose weight over the past six months - I'm now much less wobbly but also much less mobile! Hugs from Elaine Hi Elaine: I have had good results every time I got a shot, and yes, it lasted a long time, and was very effective. I have had the shots in my back, shoulders, knees, and the bottom of my feet. The foot shots kill, but work really good. Good luck at your dr. appt. Wishing you pain free days. Guest guest
Barbara, Can you share what dose of prednizone you were on? At what point does it become difficult to stop? This is my first week and I am feeling much better..... Would alternate weeks help? I have taken those dose packs in the past and weight gain was always an issue and it did not come off when medicine was stopped. However the respite from pain was sure needed emotionally. I am searching for a balance in the steroid use since I am allergic to most pain meds.... Cordially, Raniolo From: Barbara <bcreedon@...> Subject: [ ] Re: Cortisone injections in spine Date: Thursday, October 30, 2008, 6:25 PM Hi Elaine: You are most welcome. I know you will feel so much better after you get your back shot. After 5 years of daily Pred. I put on some weight, which I hate. Until I get off it, I can't do anything about it. Try as I have, I can't get off the Pred. I have to come to terms with it, be thin and suffer pain everyday, or stay on the Pred. and be pain free. Wishing you better days ahead, and pain free days. I ask the groups help. I do hope your physical therapy is helping and you will have more control over your life shortly.... Raniolo From: Barbara <bcreedon@...> Subject: [ ] Re: Cortisone injections in spine Date: Thursday, October 30, 2008, 6:46 PM Hi : In the beginning when I got diagnosed with RA, I was in such pain and suffering, she put me on 60mgs. a day of Pred. for a few weeks. I eventually was able to get on 5mgs. a day, which I stayed on for a long time. I fell and broke my shoulder and foot during a bad RA flare in Aug., and my Rheumy put me on 10mgs. a day of Pred., which I am still on. I will see her in a few weeks, and she will decide what dose I need to be on then. My flare is gone, I feel good, and have no RA pain or swelling. Thank God. Who knows how long this will last. Hope this information is helpful. Wishing you pain free days. Take care of yourself. Guest guest
Barbara, bless your heart. I've been trying to get off Prednisone and am now on my 3rd try.I've been on 10 mg/day for almost 20 years and haven't gained that much weight. When I first started taking it, I weighed 205. I went up to 215 for a while in a period of being bedridden. Now, I'm down to 4 mg/day and weigh 175. I do believe I'll go back up on the Prednisone because of other areas flaring. It would be nice to live in a perfect world, so we could just put these pills down and walk away. Wouldn't that be nice? Dreams... Guest guest
Dennis, I find your weight gain on prednisone amazing. You are blessed. I gain approx 10 pounds each time I go on it and the weight never comes off.Over the years that is approx 70 pounds. I eat better on the pred. Much healthier. Not binge eating but eating the way I did when I was size 8. This may all be due to the ovarian cancer and lack of hormones. I do not know. When I am off it I have trouble eating even childrens meals. My loved ones fear for my nutritional health. Yet I look moon faced and am obese. I do believe science will have the answer in the next decade or so. Weight gain IS NOT just calories in and out. There are bigger answers.... Many blessings, Raniolo > > Hi : > > In the beginning when I got diagnosed with RA, I was in such pain and > suffering, she put me on 60mgs. a day of Pred. for a few weeks. > > I eventually was able to get on 5mgs. a day, which I stayed on for a > long time. Guest guest
Yeah, I'm lucky to not have to take a tight regimen of Prednisone. Tuesday, Betty had to go to the hospital for her colonoscopy, so I took some extra Prednisone on Monday to make up for the stress and physical demands of going to the hospital for her and then turn around and drive that distance again to have my toenail removed. I smashed it while fixing the van's brakes and a piston fell to the floor, hitting my right great toe right on the base of the nail. Boy, that smarted! Fast-forward to today. I took an extra Prednisone because again I'll be taking her to have a brain scan, and then to another doctor somewhere else for an epidural. Of course, my toe is at about a 7, and my lower back is at an 8 or more. Whatever it takes, I'll do it for My Love. Guest guest
Well, Betty had her brain scan AND the epidural today. I'm worn out just waiting on her procedures. Also, I met a woman that lost BOTH great toenails at the same time, in an airplane crash. Someone fell over her and ripped them out in 2006 and they still aren't healed. I just thought I was having it bad. Well, tomorrow's another day... Guest guest
Hello Barbara I know what you mean; I will choose being cuddly and painfree over slim and in pain any day! Guest guest
Hello I tried a cutback regime - this wasn't overseen by a doctor; I am not advocating this but at the time I lived in a different part of the country where my GPs were disinterested and I would wait months to see a rheumy who usually said 'keep taking the tablets' so I didn't have much option! (To be fair to the rheumy, I think she was in a permanent fluster as she had queues of patients all down the corridor) I reduced by 1mg and kept the level like that for a couple of weeks; if I was feeling OK I would then take off another 1mg. I reduced, I think, from 10 mg to 2 mg that way. Hope this is helpful, Regards Elaine Re: [ ] Re: Cortisone injections in spine God Bless you.... 60mgs sounds so strong.
