Guest guest
Hi ; 'Credits " are based on how many years you've worked, etc. You should not have a problem qualifying based on that. I am on disability and live in Virginia. I have RA and I was approved first time, no lawyer. As far as I know, there is no grace period. If you can't work anymore, apply right now. I've heard the process is quicker if you do it online. Go to www.socialsecurity.gov , you can apply online, read about all the rules, etc. Hope this helps........................Jen From: Overstreet <benga19@...> Subject: Re: [ ] Re: Question Date: Saturday, October 25, 2008, 12:06 AM , Thanks I live in Virginia. What do you mean by credits? I am going to check into all this the first of the week and Hopefully I won't have too much trouble, where do you live? -- [ ] Re: Question , I think just as long as you have enough " credits " , you can apply. I think you need a 6 month grace peroid before you can apply for SSDI. I applied 6 months since I last worked and I didn't have any problems. I got approved on the 1st try. I would highly recommend that you obtain a lawyer from the beginning, I did and I think it helped w/ me getting approved on the 1st try. I had a friend of mine, who is far worse then I am and we applied at the same time. (She has lupus and MS) I got approved and she got denied and then got a lawyer. The wait for a hearing if you get denied is around a year. When you don't have any income, it's hard to make ends meet. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask; I have heard that it's harder to get approved depending on which state you live in. BEst of luck to you. --- In @gro ups.com, " Overstreet " <benga19@... > wrote: > > How long does one have to be off from work before they can apply for > disability a friend of mine was telling me she thought I had to off from > work for a year before I could apply please help > > >
Guest guest
In our early days, it was customary for the male to earn the living and the female kept house and kids. Because of that, lots of the wives don't have much of a wage background. Betty worked some part-time jobs off and on and lots f it was 'under the table'. Now she's on disability but cannot live on the amount she draws. Since she got medicare, she only draws $150 each month. We're barely getting by, having gone through our savings and selling off many things that were destined to be our legacy. My point in this is to tell all the one-check families to do something before it's too late. Another thing we've fallen into is that because we're both on SSDI, we pay no taxes on our income. When the Stimulus checks were issued, because we had no taxable income, we got only half the amount a tax-payer got. Because of that, I'm going to make sure we allow some amount that will be taxable. Good luck to the ones that are applying for or recieving SSDI.
