Guest guest
Many thanks to you all for your responses. , I have had problems in the past with sticking plasters and allergy so it may be a similar problem. No blotches that I can see. Sorry, but what it a 'hive'; I've heard the word before but not known what it is - is it like a bite? I've not heard of benadryl but will do a search for that now. I put the patch on Fri lunchtime and I still have the itchies - however, I am happy to itch for the reduced pain! Unfortunately, since yesterday I have become increasingly dizzy - so sorry to be asking for more help, but has anyone encountered this? The patch is called Duragesic Transdermal. I've also been increasingly sleepy since I put the patch on. To put this into context; I've been up until 5 or 6am every night for weeks; was given temgesic tablets last week and have been sleeping better since taking them but am now falling asleep on my feet! I have to make contact with my doctor tomorrow as he told me to try the patch over the weekend and get back to him on Mon; I'm just worried that I'm going to look like a complete hypochondriac. Sorry this is so long again; would really appreciate any input. Thanks and hugs from Elaine
Guest guest
Google the word hive and you will get photos. For me they are circular red spots about the size of a quarter. sometimes they are flat and sometimes raised. Very, very itchy. I have been given injections to get them to stop. Benadryl is an inexpensive over the counter medication that I believe should be in everyones first aid kit. I keep it in my home and in the glove compartment of my car. It stops itching caused by bug bites..allergies etc. In a crunch - perhaps 3 times a year...I use it as a sleeping aid. Good luck... Guest guest
Elaine and group; Benedryl is over the counter and I would be lost without it. Just ask your pharmacist when you go to the drug store and he will show you. I may have spelled it wrong too. Don't worry just tell your doctor you got a little itch. He may suggest something else. Guest guest
Hi Elaine - please don't feel bad about any long posts. Some days we just have more to say than others and that is OK. Hives are " a skin condition characterized by skin blisters and rashes caused by an allergic reaction to food (e.g. milk, eggs, shellfish, strawberries, nuts), food additives, drugs (e.g. aspirin, penicillin), or chemicals. Frequently it has the appearance of raised white lumps surrounded by a reddened, inflamed area. They often last only a few hours, but can last for weeks. " I had the hives only once in my life - after the birth of my first daughter. I had raised welts all over my back and they itched like crazy. Mine were stress related and lasted over a week, but finally went away. Benadryl is an antihistamine available OTC here in the USA and is available in pill or liquid form. It is good to help counter-act an allergic reaction to somethings and also helps with the itch of hives. So sorry to hear you are more sleepy since the pain patches - is it possible they are too strong? Just a thought. I don't think you would look like a hypochondriac at all. Let your doctor know all of your thoughts and concerns. If he is worth his diploma, he will be sympathetic to what you are going through and be more than willing to help you through this. Keep us posted. I care.........Doreen > > Many thanks to you all for your responses. > > , I have had problems in the past with sticking plasters > and allergy so it may be a similar problem. Guest guest
Dear Doreen, Clora and Thank you so much for your advice and support. I've seen my doctor and he has given me patches that are the next strength down (so half the strength of the first one) - and I'm much less itchy already and not as dizzy today Only 6 days to go until I get the injection in my spine - so I hope to tell you next week that I'm dancing while I'm doing the housework!
