Hi, Stan.

No, it's not OK to smoke if you have RA.

The researchers were attempting to simulate the effects of smoking on

the immune system. They found that the production of proinflammatory

cytokines increased. The proinflammatory cytokines we talk about most

at RA-Support are tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and interleukin (IL).

Enbrel, Humira, and Remicade block TNF, and Kineret interferes with

IL.

The conclusion of the abstract is: " These results support the

epidemiological studies indicating a strong association between heavy

cigarette smoking and pathogenesis of RA. "

" Pathogenesis " is how a disease develops. This study adds to the great

amount of evidence which already exists which demonstrates that, in

those genetically susceptible, smoking can lead to the onset of

rheumatoid arthritis.

Hi, Clora.

Smoking affects more than one's lungs.

For example, people with RA are at a higher risk of cardiovascular

events than the normal population. If people with RA smoke, they are

adding to that risk.

Group and

It figures,  haaaaaaaa.  Smoking is bad for everyplace in the body it seems.

The government should add that to their anti-smoking  adds. Maybe kids will

think twice about starting.

Clora, I have that med for migraines. I take one if I have a really bad

migraine, which I don't have many of any more, thank goodness.

The trouble with a lot of migraine medications is the caffeine they

contain. It's hard to get to sleep when you've just taken a pill with

so much caffeine.

I hope they work for you.

Hi Clora,

Glad you finally received your pain meds. Hope they help you. Tried

looking that up in my nursing drug book but it didn't say what the

name of them is.
