Guest guest
I always sat on the ground until the last 2 years. The ground suddenly got cold and I got stiff. My hubby, Jim, and i would wire pallets together or stack straw bales next to a tree and I'd sit inside that on the ground. It was probably the RA that put a stop to literal ground sitting. I don't do tree stands. I'm terribly afraid of heights. Now I sit in one of those canvas camp chairs. To break my profile I set up in a portable tent-like blind. That lets me get up and move a bit. In the last 3 years of hunting I've brought home good meat every time. My husband has never been in a tree stand. He always sat up against a tree wrapped up in a wool blanket. For 17 years he hunted and brought home a deer every year. We can't eat beef- Jim has to have a very low fat diet and venison is very very low fat. Ground hunting is different than from a tree. They have wonderful eyesight and will catch any movement. You have to look with your eyes first and then slowly move your head. We have no trouble seeing deer. For us it is hoping that one is old enough. Our preference is to not take anything younger than 2-3 years. I will admit that the RA has affected one part of my hunting. i used to head for the middle of the woods with hills and hollers. Lots of walking. I just can't do it anymore. We pick a good cornfield and I then set up within 15 feet of the field edge. That lets me drive the Gator almost to 'my front door'. --- In , " eandsspivey " <emilyspivey@...> wrote: > > Dalanne, I saw in one of your posts that you deer hunt..... My husband says I'll never see a deer from the ground but I'm still hesitant to try to climb up in a tree. >
