Guest guest
Hi nne -- As a newcomer, I received about 10 e-mails (tho only a few were to answer my post). Yours was really good to hear. Gave me a little hope that others get a good picture -- no radiation, anyway. I don't know what the chemo will be since the dr. mentioned some different chemical than tamoxifen today. But said two months would probably be it. Thanks for taking the time to answer my querie. Janie.

Guest guest
Hi Janie and welcome to the group. I had my surgery in May 1990. I had a mastectomy and one bad node. I had 6 mo of chemo. The dr decided that I would not need radiation. I did not get sick at all with my chemo. I didn't loose all of my hair. It just thinned a little. I am receptor negative so couldn't take tamoxifen. I have never heard of anyone taking tamoxifen for only 6-8 weeks. Its usually for 5 yrs. Could it possibly be something else? I will keep you in my prayers. Guest guest
Hi Moochie -- Thanks for your response. Could you tell me whether or not the " one bad node " was found by a sentinel node biopsy? Just curious as I think they will do that for me. Also what chemo did you have? Thanks if can answer. I am praying a lot, too, will remember you. Janie. > Hi Janie and welcome to the group. I had my surgery in May 1990. I had a > mastectomy and one bad node. I had 6 mo of chemo. Guest guest
Thanks for your response, Moochie. I can see it was different back in the 90's (my mother died of metastic cancer in '95 and I took care of her but it was lung primary, then brain. So, I won't go into that here. Yesterday was my first day on this site and am getting all kinds of responses with information. So, am going around thanking everyone. THANK YOU EVERYONE. Guest guest
Hi Janie, Back in 1990 they didn't do sentinel node biopsies. I had 23 nodes removed and the one was bad. I had 6 mo of chemo. The first two Tues of the month I had 5fu and methotrexate in an IV push. The third week I took Cytoxan pills and the fourth week I rested. This went on for 6 mo. But remember that was 14 yrs ago! Guest guest
Well maybe they're not. I should find out soon -- they are going to do a sentinel node biopsy Wed. evening if I can get in -- then the breast surgery the next morning. I don't know, except it is constantly in the doctor's talk. I guess invasive ductal carcinoma 2.5 cm (about an inch or larger) often does. (????) Guest guest
-- Hi, Just wanted to ask if anyone is familiar with the macrobiotic diet. My sister had breast cancer, she was in remission for five years, and cancer was reently found in her bones. It was a small tumor and, she just finished 2 weeks of radiation. She is looking into the diet. Does anyone know anyone on it? If so, what are your results/opinion? Guest guest
I had 6 weeks radiation. I didn't burn to bad. Kept my breast lather in aloe all the time and wore cotton tee's no bra. I was tired....but that could be because I had to drive 20 minutes there and 20 back everyday. Took about 10 minutes for the rads. I sure was glad when the 6 weeks were over. It isn't painful at all when they do it. I took tamoxifen for 5 years. Finished it in January this year. Boy did I do a *Happy* dance at warp speed! Never heard of them having anyone take it for 6 weeks? I will certainly be keeping you in my prayers and sending healing vibes your way. What is your name? I noticed the e-mail had Jane in it. I am scheduled for surgery later this week. I can still choose between lumpectomy or mastectomy (mastectomy would probably help me eliminate radiation therapy, tho not certain as my tumor is not too small and more than 3 nodes might be involved.)Question 1 -- how does 30 days radiation feel?Question 2 - What will 6-8 weeks tomoxifen feel like? Will probably require chemo since at least 1 node is probably involved and am diabetic and worried about low blood sugars with vomiting, etc. Also, don't they use another chemical along with tomoxifen, which is the other part of the "hormonal" therapy? Thanks for any experience/knowledge you could share with me soon.
