Was the meningioma in a difficult position to operate??Was this a head meningioma? rosemary >> hi Rosemary - well i don't necessarily follow cuz i've often done things before others. my 1st GK ('90) was such a success on my AN, so it made the 2nd ('92) on the meningioma seem like a good idea. the meningioma was in the left temporal area - which has alot to do w/ communication. biggest fear was that i might not maintain the ability to communicate. it definitely slowed me down, esp for first year after. the other thing was that i wanted to try a Cochlear Implant instead of an Auditory- Brainstem Implant. this tumor was a little too close to Cochlea that i had saved w/ 1st GK. so the thought was to take care of this before i tried the C.I. so that is what we did. unfortunately there were many complications, but i did have C.I. surgery a little over a year later. (early '92) the C.I. unfortunately, did not return my hearing. but certainly helps me understand better when i am reading lips. there are a few guesses as to what happened. my theory is that the tumor location interfers w/ comprehension. if that is so, then an ABI would not work for me either. so i wait to see what developes next. i am grateful i haven't had any surgeries in last 8 years, altho i do have over a doz meningiomas in brain. they are in there, not appearing to be growing right now. i've learned enough to leave them alone when they sleep. (i've had 7 major surgeries since '79 including 2 very major spinal surgeries.) hugs to all, LynnBK
