Guest guest
First meal 4-5 eggs, cooked with sausage or bacon, and veggies and cheese added. 2nd meal, about half a lb of deli meat's and cheeses cut up into cubes (i buy the deli ends at 1.99 per lb) I just snack on these with some mustard, or mayo/horseradish mixed. 3rd meal roast chicken as much as i want, lol or as we have, and between half and a whole bag<16 oz> (frozen) of veggies (broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, greenbeans) with butter or cheese on them. 4th meal /snack quarter of cantelope, or honeydew, or berries or pepperoni and cheese, or a serving size of nuts. I've been eating this way since 1/01, and have lost about 40 lbs, and my bs have been pretty normal, 90 - 120 hba1c of 6.0 Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi all. I have been reading all your informative post for a few weeks so I thought I'd delurk and introduce myself. I am a 58 year old retired auditor, first diagnosed about 5 years ago (type 2). When I was first diagnosed my bgs range was around 150-170. I started with a 100 carb, 1500 calorie, a day diet. After about a year I was up to the 160 carb, 1800 calorie, a day regime described below. For me cutting carbs was harder than cutting calories. I lost 25 lbs (from 175 to 150). I am 5' 10 " . I test myself 5 times a day, usually 90 - 100 in the morning, 100 - 120 in the afternoon. A tad higher after Thanksgiving of course <g>. Being 58 and losing a few more brain cells each day <G> I have to keep things simple. I have around 40 carbs for breakfast, lunch and dinner with two 20 carb " snacks " in between. I have one serving (6-8 oz) a day of meat, poultry or fish. A 3 egg omelet once a week. Desert for me is one or two slices of whole wheat toast with Smucker's Low Sugar Jam. No pies, cakes or donuts (Sigh). I just don't have the will power to eat a small piece of pie or one donut. It's either half a pie or 6 donuts or nothing <g>. For a low carb snack I'll have an Edge Carb Control Bar (200 calories and 2.5 carbs). I also walk 1 to 3 miles each day, depending on who my old bones feel. I drink 60 - 80 oz of water each day, and of course wear a path to the bathroom, which I guess counts as more exercise <G>. I consider myself very lucky. I was diagnosed early enough and with my life style adjustments I am much healthier now than when I was younger. Ed from CT

Guest guest
Jacky, if you really lower your carbs, as you detox you may not feel great for a few days and you will have cravings. I always suggest eating something protein to feed the cravings for now. As you adjust to the lower carbs, you will start feeling great and your cravings should lessen significantly. You should also start noticing an even better reduction in your bg's. Barb > Jacky, who is going to eat more meat today....oh yeah, my pre-lunch > reading was 8 so I am starting to have lower highs. You might actually feel hypo at 5.5 or less. It's always a good idea to test when you feel like this, because you might really be hypo, in which case you'd need to take a glucose tablet. Glucose tabs (available in markets in the diabetes section) will raise your bg approx 1 point, as they are 4 grams of pure glucose. They also are an exact measurement and work faster than any kind of food, which hsa to be digested. I recommend having them on hand. I have them everywhere - vehicles, kitchen, bedroom, barn, tack kit, purse, etc. They come in big jars and small tubes.
