Guest guest
This is an issue which thoroughly confuses and frustrates me and I am wondering if there is even a definite answer or if it is all just relative to an individual. It seems that colon cleansing and detoxing are being promoted as the panacea of health these days. People like Trudeau (I know, he's no doctor, just a " messenger " ) and Donna Gates are emphasizing the importance of cleaning out all the supposed junk we all have built up. I have read it in other places, too, but what I am wondering is if it is true. Does absolutely every adult in the US who grew up on SAD have like 10lbs. of fecal matter built up so much that we are not absorbing ANYTHING of the foods we eat now? I mean, I for one have only been eating NT for a year and a half, but in the 28 years before that I wasn't a total junkaholic. My mother was conscientious enough to know that whole foods are good and to limit the junk (but I guess even some junk out weighs the good foods, huh?) Am I just throwing money down the toilet by investing in high quality raw dairy, grass fed meats, organic and locally grown produce, or wasting my time and energy trying to make my food as digestible as possible and adhering to the principles as closely as possible of discontinuing the use of refined anything and not consuming anything in a package or loaded with chemicals or sugar because maybe I am just not really getting any nutrients out of any of it?? What really is irritating, and I know I am no expert, is that when they list the possible symptoms that a blocked colon or liver can cause there is inevitably one or two on the list that I have experienced recently or am at the moment and how am I to know whether this is what is causing it or the myriad of other things it could be, i.e. thyroid, adrenals.? Can I just take probiotics, eat cultured foods, maybe some chlorella, and be okay? Or do I need to go through the rigors of colon cleanses and detox diets and invest in other supplements to help my liver etc. until I think I am " clean " and ready for a fresh start? I mean, who doesn't want to wake up in the morning and have such fresh breath that teeth brushing is unnecessary or not get gray hair when they are past their prime because they are fully functioning inside.it sounds too good to be true! I know I sound a little out of control, lol. But maybe there is some insight out there I just have not thought about. amanda
Guest guest
When I started the salt/c protocol for lyme many were doing the colon cleanses, enemas, etc. but I never did. Granted, salt does improve digestion immeasurably and I did overdo the c a few times so that my colon was emptied, but now I have no symptoms of liver problems, and think my digestion is working very, very well. Which is to say I don't think it's necessary to do anything too extreme to get healthy liver and bowels. I do now belive that salt is a very important and often overlooked element to good nutrition. Our healthy ancestors used to eat between 20 and 40 grams of salt a day! If you're eating healthy and not seeing the expected benefits after awhile, I guess then it's time to wonder what may be congested or not working. > > This is an issue which thoroughly confuses and frustrates me and I am > wondering if there is even a definite answer or if it is all just > relative to an individual. Guest guest
First of all, only a health practitioner (a good one!), will be able to tell you what specific things you need to do to get well. On the other hand, if you want to improve your overall health and body function, a colon cleanse program is an excellent idea. And yes, most people nowdays will get some benefit from a colon cleanse due to past diets, sedentary lifestyle, stress, etc.... If you look at all the great natural healers, the absolute first thing that they did was clean the colon. Then they worked on the liver. Just getting those functioning well can resolve many other unrelated issues. I got rid of chronic neck pain with a colon cleanse. Not just a colonic, mind you, this is a whole cleanse program like Schulze or Bernard Jensen's. Yes, you could be spending all this money on great food and not be getting the most out of it. Lots of factors involved.... We live in a totally different world than Weston Price's world. What it took for natives to stay healthy is not what it's going to take to get us well. Sorry, but this is the brutal truth of the matter. Look at all the pollution and chemicals we are exposed to. Just the air in any major city is horrendous. The effort that you choose to go to (colon cleanses, liver flush, etc..) totally depends on how happy you are with your current level of health. I personally believe it can be well worth it. I have eaten mostly raw food for a while because the benefits are so great. (And yes, I don't have to brush my teeth in the morning!) But it takes effort to get there and a knowledgable practitioner. Alot of people try to do resolve their health isssues on their own (using mostly food and supplements), but things are so complex that it makes it VERY difficult. So a good cleanse would be helpful if you want to take your health up a few notches... There are many different ones to choose from...the individual organ cleanses all the way to the whole body cellular cleanses. It is up to you and how you feel about your current level of health...
