Guest guest
What causes this? Is low stomach acid a possible cause? If so, can anyone explain the mechanism? This is in relation to a discussion I'm having on the K9 Kidney list where, apparently, many dogs in renal failure are given antacids including acid suppressors like Tagamet and Pepcid for these symptoms based on the belief that the symptoms are caused by hyperaciditiy. Note that there is some evidence that renal failure in some cases causes excess gastrin to float around since diseased kidneys have a hard time clearing it, but I haven't yet seen evidence that this excess gastrin automatically causes excess gastric acid. But I haven't looked very deeply into the issue yet. Suze Fisher Lapdog Design, Inc. Web Design & Development http://members.bellatlantic.net/~vze3shjg Weston A. Protocol in Nutrition Almanac for nephritis suggests 50,000- 75,000 iu's of A, 1000 mgs.choline and a low protein, sodium, potassium diet for humans.
