HUGE fan of Whedon's stuff. I've seen every episode of buffy, and consider it to be one of the best shows ever on T.V. Intelligent, funny and exciting. I didn't like the brief snippet of Firefly that I originally saw on TV, but saw Serenity and loved it. Forget the reruns, get the DVD's, gorram it! LOL!! http://tinyurl.com/c7cvd There are three episodes on DVD that never aired, nor do you have to worry about seeing the show out of order, which is how Fox originally aired it (??????). Below is a review I plucked from Amazon: " Let me preface this by saying that I rarely watch television anymore. The worst book ever published is a thousand times better than the best tv show left on the air... With the possible exception of Joan of Arcadia. Even that's not enough of a draw to keep me home on a Friday night though. And reality tv... Pheh... But Firefly... There was a time when Friday nights were reserved for tv time. Picture me, on the floor in front of the tv, begging my kids to play somewhere else... Plleeeeeeaase! It's only on once a week! And then the theme song begins... It's got a bit of a twang... fiddles... And then the words, the spirit. You instantly know what the show's going to be about. It's the American Dream. No... Not the new one about living like Trump in a palace seemingly miles above Manhattan... The real American Dream The one that brought our ancestors. It's about living free, room to stretch out and breathe, self reliance, and self determination. Would a simple television show dare to reach so far? Firefly dared that and more, bringing the dream to the very stars. Along for the ride are some of the most complex and original characters ever seen in cookie-cutter-land. Then Fox, in true ratings-dazed fashion, lassoed the dream and pulled it down. If you've ever dreamed of open-spaces, open-minds, and a life lived not without danger but without fear, you must own this collection. You must. " Amy R. Shreve ###### -- I first met her...in the Student Union at the University...sitting across and down the table from each other. Our eyes met and that was it. I was lost immediately in her soulful gaze (which I remember vividly and tearfully even now) and was drawn inexorably from that very moment into a love so certain that I never doubted anything about it, other than the improbability that she would put up with me. No, that's why Joss did the TV show. He was disappointed with how the movie turned out. And of course as all right-thinking people know, Joss is Boss. > Yup, I agree. Pretty amazing stuff. The Laphroaig is goooooood stuff, but it's already a HUGE leap for my family to contemplate buying me some scotch, so a pricier scotch would pretty much nix the deal. On the other hand, her dad drank scotch all the time, and she is always telling me how much like him I am, so who knows. > " A box of Cuban Montecristos > Buffy the complete 7 year set > The Serenity DVD and the Firefly boxed set > Some good company " > > You might also want to check out the series 'Angel', which was spun off > from Buffy. I haven't seen the Sopranos or Deadwood. That would require me to actually schedule some tv viewing time, which normally just doesn't sit well with me. Watching Buffy was a fluke, but I'm glad I came across it. However the DVD thing is fabulous cuz I can control when I watch something. Guest guest
- >The movie is extremely well done (although the series is better), and >can be enjoyed even by folks who don't like either genre and/or who >don't know/get/understand the underlying message I agree with you about the message of the film, and I went in with high hopes, having enjoyed the TV show enough when it aired and being a huge fan of " Angel " and a reasonable fan of " Buffy " , but I found the execution disappointing. The story meandered without structure and there was a lot of silliness undermining what could've been a crackerjack story of corruption and abuse of power. Still, Chiwetel Ejiofor rules. If you haven't seen " Dirty Pretty Things " , I highly recommend it. >(unlike AeonFlux, >which I don't think will be generally enjoyed by people who don't like >that genre. And while I liked it, and enjoyed parts of its message, I >tend to see most movies with Charlize Theron, even when I am hating on >the movie itself). I'm similarly a fan of Charlize, but I didn't wind up seeing the movie. I'll catch it on DVD for sure, but it just didn't look very good. Did the story actually wind up working after all? One of my problems, admittedly, was that it seemed to go in a very different direction from the original animation, which had plenty of flaws but also many compelling and fascinating aspects. -
