It's quick . . . so don't worry. I had mine done w/o any prior notice, no

advil. It hurt like HELLLLL! A pinch then horrible menstrual like cramps,

which gradually resided. I'm sure the prior use of advil will help you a lot.

Good luck.

Hi Lori,

I am also having an endometrial biopsy in April and my dr. didn't mention

anything at all about taking anything. Did your dr. say it was some sort of

suction biopsy? Thats what my dr. said, and she also said it would take 5

mins. I hope so.

Lori,

I went in last month and wasn't expecting to have to get one done but once

I got their the doctor wanted to do one. He gave me 800 mg. ibuprofen, then

waited several minutes. I believe he also gave me a shot of lidocaine in

the cervix and then proceeded with getting the tissue sample.

Best wishes,

Michele

For me there was no bleeding, just cramping for about five minutes. Then

you're back to normal. It is really not that big of a deal procedure, pretty

much like getting a pap smear done only they have to go further in.

Yes, cramping that makes you moan a bit and hug your tummy

but over in 5 minutes max.

I would take 3 or 4 ibuprophen one hour prior to the

biopsy......

ASK YOUR DOCTOR TO NUMB THE AREA A BIT, THEY CAN DO IT, I DONT KNOW WHY THEY

DONT. THIS IS VERY PAINFUL OTHERWISE, PERHAPS THESE PEOPLE ARE LAZY. I HAD IT

BOTH WAYS, AND WITH NOTHING IT WAS AWFUL.

Well, I went to get my endo. bx. done yesterday. The doctor couldn't get my

cervix to open. (And don't think she didn't give it a really good try.) She

said that might be because there is a fibroid or polyp pushing up against the

cervix. I told her that the ultrasound from last Nov. only showed one

fibroid on the fundal wall. She said that fibroids usually show up in

multiples, and that some can " hide " on ultrasound.

She wasn't at all concerned when I told her how long I had been bleeding.

She said it was probably hormones, or the fibroid(s?). She also found an

area of abrasion on my vaginal wall and told me to stop using tampons. Women

my age(55) can have thinning of the vaginal wall, or it might just be that

any woman would have irritation after using tampons continually for such a

long time. If the bleeding stops after I have been away from tampons for a

while, everything's fine. If not, ultrasound can be used to test for

endometrial cancer if it's done after your period. They look at the

thickness of the endometrial stripe.

When I got home, I had a gushing episode. Later, I passed a fairly

large-sized clot. As soon as my period starts, I'm doing a saliva hormone

test through my family practioner. What did I learn from this experience?

TO NOT GET UPSET UNTIL I HAVE A SPECIFIC REASON TO.

Ow, Cheryl, that sounds painful! Glad you have such a good attitude about

it though.

Has anyone else had this happen, and if so, did you and your doctors

eventually find another way to get actionable info about the state of your

endometrium? I'm scheduled for an endometrial biopsy in two weeks, with

the gyn who was previously unable to do one because he could not find my

cervix -- but that was during a six-week cycle of flooding and clotting and

I was having terrible cramps. I've already had two ultrasounds and know

from that that my uterus is enlarged and the endometrium is thickened and

irregular, and the radiologist said " it would be a good idea to do an

endometrial biopsy " so getting another ultrasound probably won't help much.

My cervix can't be reached in a normal office examination, so when I needed

an endo biopsy, my doctor did it in a hospital with me under general

anesthesia. It still gave her some trouble, but in the end she did manage to

get the sample.

Nina, were the ultrasounds done after your period? They probably were. Good

luck.

Cheryl,

Sounds like you had a similar experience during your attempted biopsy as I had!

She finally got a sample after quite a bit of difficulty getting through the

cervix but told me it might not be enough for the pathology study, which turned

out to be the case. I had a D & C a few weeks later to get a biopsy sample, which

turned out to be normal. In my case, the fibroids had begun growing very

rapidly and this is why my GYN wanted a biopsy.

Anyhow, I'm glad it's all over for you and that now you can relax.

Leonie
