I got this today from Monterey Bay Aquarium

2006 Seafood Watch Pocket Guide Changes and Additions

www.seafoodwatch.org

We've partnered with Environmental Defense to expand our advisories

on contaminants in seafood. About a dozen species now have red

asterisks, indicating a recommendation to consumers to eat these

items once a week or less. Visit www.oceansalive.org for specific

consumption advice.

The Marine Stewardship Council is an internationally recognized

certification agency for well-managed and sustainable fisheries. On

our new pocket guides, Alaskan salmon and Pollock -- two important

U.S. based fisheries -- both have blue asterisks indicating they are

MSC-certified. Visit www.msc.org for more information.

Other changes to our species recommendations include Pollock, which

moved from a Good Alternative to a Best Choice. Pacific cod caught

with trap or hook and line is identified as a Best Choice. We also

took a more refined look at sharks and some U.S. shrimp fisheries,

Northeast scallops, crayfish, tilefish and Summer flounder. Some new

species have been added, including Grenadier, Pompano, Croaker and

Basa/Tra catfish. For a more in depth look into why these changes

have been made, please visit our web site.
