Fluoride toothpaste can cause canker sores, if you're using fluoride

toothpaste, try stopping it, I did a year ago and haven't had a canker

sore since.

Am I spelling your name correctly? I don't remember. Anyway, I

think the usual correlation is to SLS in toothpaste, not fluoride,

which is why toothpaste meant for canker sore sufferers is SLS-free.

That's not to say there aren't plenty of outstanding reasons to avoid

fluoride, though.

SLS = Sodium Laurly Sulfate? Maybe that does as well, but I

distinctly remember reading that the fluoride in the toothpaste did,

because I had an " aha " moment where it all came together, why I used

to get them after my dentist appointments, why I hadn't gotten them

in the last year, etc.

AFAIK, fluoride has no role in the development of canker sores. I

could be wrong, but I believe it's well-established that irritants

like detergents (primarily SLS) and cinnamon oil are the actual

causes. Fluoride isn't present in nearly the concentration required

to be irritating.

What else does your dentist use and do? Overly aggressive brushing

can cause canker sores all by itself, and dentists certainly inflict

a lot of trauma on the mouth while cleaning teeth.
