Guest guest
So I was at whole foods the other day and wanted to get some Olive Oil to make mayo. I looked at them for a few minutes and decided on " Napa Valley Naturals E.V. Rich & Robust " because it was on sale and looked decent. I could have sworn it was organic, but I find out that it actually isn't after opening the bottle. Then I taste it, and it tastes pretty good with some homemade sourdough bread. Then I decide to look up the company because I learned it wasn't organic. " At Napa Valley Naturals, each year we press our Rich and Robust Olive Oil from olives grown pesticide and fertilizer free on select orchards in some of the finest growing regions available. " Ok, then I search google and find this http://www.oliveoilsource.com/scripts/dictionary.asp?p_do=item & p_id=112 " Despite being labeled " extra virgin " and being advertised as such, the Napa Valley Naturals olive oils are not extra virgin. The COOC has found that the oils consist either of inferior grade olive oil, refined olive oil, or in some cases, imitation oil where the olive oil has been mixed with canola or other seed oils. For example, chemical testing of three bottles of Napa Valley Natural's " Organic Extra Virgin " olive oil purchased from defendants revealed significant amounts of refined seed oil (probably canola). " Now I am just kicking myself in the butt. I don't have the receipt either cause I only bought a few things and didn't think I would have to return anything. I guess I will still try to return it without one. What do you folks think? -

" While the Council's main mission is to create markets for legitimate olive oil producers, it has now entered the legal arena to stop such flagrant misrepresentations. Last year, the Council filed a lawsuit against the Napa Valley Trading Company, claiming it was illegally labeling its Napa Valley Naturals olive oils. Details of the case, which was settled in April, cannot be fully disclosed. However, the company, whose oils are sold at reputable markets such as Berkeley Bowl, agreed to revise its label to reflect the source of their oil (which is not the Napa Valley, but Tunisia and the Upper Sacramento Valley). " Do you think they would still try to market a fake extra virgin oil after having a settlement in court? I don't know if I should keep this oil or try returning it. Guest guest
Mike- >The best source of olive oil is olives. I like you and I consider you an extremely valuable member of the list, so I hope you won't take this the wrong way, but unless you mean that as a joke and I'm just humor-impaired at the moment, that's unproductively doctrinaire. -

My personal favorite (though I don't use much olive oil at all) is Bariani, though I guess that's not exactly helpful if you're out of olive oil right now. -

Guest guest
Bariani is wonderful! It's very fruity flavored and smelling. I found the best place to get it is straight from Bariani online, it's cheaper and comes quickly.
