Guest guest
Sandy, Those numbers sound about like what I was told when I was in the hospital and first diagnosed with diabetes. They put me on a 2,200 calorie diet which included 20 servings of 15 carbs each for the entire day. They said about 6 carb servings for each meal and about 2 carb servings for a late night snack before bedtime. That's 3 to 4 carb servings per meal and 1 to 2 between meals. Now, I ate that way for 3 years, with no problem blood sugars, but I can't eat that way now. I've been noticing on the list that about 100 is a moderate amount. There are 15 grams of carbs in a carb serving... about what's in a normal slice of bread or a small piece of fruit. That means that if you try to keep it at 100 grams a day, you could have about 2 carb servings with each meal, as 100 grams divided by 15 is a little more than 6 servings. I find that's too much for me, so I'm having to go lower. I'm shooting for about 3 to 4 carb servings, which would be about 45 to 60 grams of carbs. Low would be 30 grams, which I find awfully low.... only 2 carb servings a day.
