Kayla, Don't know if this is at all helpful to you, but I asked my friend/pilates instructor about your situation and here is her reply: " I forgot to talk to you this morning simply put diastasis is when the area of the rectus abdominal is torn typically due to excessive strain to this area (i.e. C-section is a cause) It is very important that when someone has recently had a child or c-seciton (sometimes up to 2 years) that the rectus abdominal is very carefully monitored that it is not strained during activity whether pilates or just every day activity. Also one must be careful not to overstrain obliques as well since they attach via fascia and can also cause strain to the area... [she]...should make sure to be strengthening her mutlifidus, pelvic floor and transversus abdominal and currently avoid rectus abdominal and oblique strengthening until the area is completely healed! hope this helps " from the above, it appears you will need to be very careful and conscientious no matter what type of excercise you pursue. I hope you heal rapidly and completely. B.
