Guest guest
, I had a myo in May 1999, I was 36 at the time, I had about 30 fibroids removed. I found out last September that I have 3 fibroids again. I am going for another ultrasound on Monday, to see how they have grown, as my flow is getting very heavy again. I have heard, that it is very common for fibroids to grow back, I was hoping it would not happen to me, but have not been that lucky. nna --- diamondsmileca wrote: > Are there any stats with respect to the reocurrence > of fibroids post > myo? Guest guest
" very common for fibroids to grow back " depends on your age and how well the myomectomy was performed in the first place. There have been a lot of posts lately about the pre-operativie use of Lupron.Maybe you did not take it,but any woman who is being told she should take it prior to a myomectomy should ask her doctor if that may reduce some of the fibroids to a size where they will be missed during surgery.Naturally, after a few months the fibroids are back.Women who are closer to menopause and who chose myomectomy as a treatment should find a very skilled surgeon. Her chances of re-growth would not be that high. rometfan wrote: > , > > I had a myo in May 1999, I was 36 at the time, I had > about 30 fibroids removed. Guest guest
My doctor tells me that it depends on your age and size of fibroid when they are removed. I am 31 and I had a 2 cm fibroid removed on Thursday, along with a polyp. I am trying to have a baby, but I have to wait three months before we can try again. I have lost two babies to the fibroid or polyp or both. My doctor assured me that it will grow back, but probably not until my fourties. He said the accurance of new fibroids in a woman my age was unlikely. I hope this helps some. Dana
Guest guest
It would be interesting to know the ages of women who experience regrowth. Also, - I think someone may have mentioned this earlier - was Lupron part of the presurgery protocol? Guest guest
Lupron was not use on me, doc was afraid of missiing fibroids, by them getting too small. I was 36 when I had the myo and had 30 fibroids. 2 1/2 years later have 3 big ones. We are looking at lupron now, just so I do not go insane! nna --- on wrote: > It would be interesting to know the ages of women > who experience > regrowth. Guest guest
Just be careful, Dana. Unlikely to return? I wouldn't be too trusting---I was 28--and now 34 they have returned. Are they hereditary in your case? Deanna

Guest guest
Yes, they would be considered hereditary. My mother had ovarian fibroids, and ended up having a hysterectomy in 1983. She also had endometriosis. I don't guess I meant to say unlikely to return at all, he said unlikely to return right away, like within six months or something. My concern about it returning right away is that my husband and I would like to have two children, and I wanted to know if I would have to have them back to back. We may end up doing that anyway since I would like to have all of my children before I am 35. I don't plan on going back on birth control pills, so I am hoping that will help slow them down. I am cautious though. I feel confident that I have a window of opportunity to have children. Thanks for your advice. Dana

Guest guest
Hi, I had a myo 12 years ago and am just having regrowth now. But they seem to be large. Some of us are closer than others. But none of us has any idea how close they are. My fibroids just grew 4 cm. in depth in the last 6 mos. which means they are now 16cm. deep. I'm 55. I'm still menstruating with no signs of estrogen withdrawal: no hot flashes, no migraines, no trouble sleeping. (But I've heard that some women go into menopause with no warning.) The radiologist thinks I should get a biopsy because this is growing so fast and 'at my age, my hormones SHOULD be cycling down and the fibroid SHOULD be getting smaller.' That really bothered me. Every woman's hormones are different. I know a woman who was having signs of estrogen withdrawal and her fibroids still continued to grow! She had a myo and her fibroid was just that. A fibroid. Not cancer. I hope mine is not cancer. I have an appointment with a gynecological oncologist at the Mayo Clinic around the first of June. Guest guest
Hi, Thanks everyone for the replies to my question...I have been reading with interest. I intend to have a family, that is why they did the myo in the 1st place. The fibroid ws large and the doc did not put me on lupron, so he should have been able to get the visible ones. My concern is I seem to grow them so fast...8cm in 6 mons... So, time is now of the essence...As far as the cancer issue. From everything that I have read, the chance that they are cancer is very small, if they are indeed a fibroid. Carla's book has alot of very good information about this particular subject area. I wish there was some sort of tracking to come up with reoccurence stats post myo. I think it would be interesting... Guest guest
Cheryl, all your points are valid. But I suspect that Agnes meant " peri-menopausal " rather than " pre-menopausal " ; it sounds like she is undecided what to do as she thinks she may be able to wait and see whether menopause sorts out her fibroid problems. You are right to warn that menopause may not come as quickly as she hopes, but perhaps Agnes has clear perimenopausal symptoms and/or has tested positive for high levels of FSH. Guest guest
Dear Cheryl, What you said about you are 55, still menstruating, and your fibroid just grew 4 cm in depth in the last 6 months really scared me. Would you mind sending me an email privately so I could ask you about your symptoms and how you are handling them? Your case sounds like mine. Or maybe we should correspond out on the list? This whole thing is so scary. I don't know what is happening to my body. I am wondering what symptoms you have, how you know it grew that much, what you are thinking of doing, how you are handling things, and where your fibroids are located. Thanks. Carol B. Guest guest
Hi, Carol. Let's see. . . I had been told that I had just one large submural fibroid in the fundal wall. Last Monday, I was told that I also had a bunch of very tiny ones, too. So, I just don't wear things that emphasize my waist line, because I don't have one right now. I think you also asked about signs of estrogen withdrawal. The only ones I know of are hot flashes, night sweats, migraines, and difficulty sleeping.
