I use herbs a lot. Tinctures are not as concentrated as liquid extracts.

Usually they are 1 part herb to five of alcohol. Extracts are 1 part of

each. Thus with tinctures the dose is usually a teaspoon (depending on the

herb) whereas with extracts it is drops.

The advantage of tinctures and extracts is that with some herbs the alcohol

extracts constituents that water can't and also they keep a lot longer. The

general rule is not to keep dried herbs longer than a year - and of course

you don't know how long they have been in the shop. Powders lose their

effectiveness even faster.

I personally use tinctures mainly because there are more herbs available as

tinctures then extracts and I also like to buy organic where possible

hope this helps

tinctures, extracts, powderes, capsules OR loose leaf herbs

for teas

Angel,

I must say that I am usually in the dark about this myself!

I would love to make some " standard " tinctures to have for the basic cold,

flu, scrape adn whatnot.

Oh Great NNers....Any ideas?
