Hi Don,

Not sure if this could be your problem but from what it sounds to me

your two year old has the same issue as my little sister who had

eczema since a very young age until recently when she had treatment

on her candida and parasites she was exposed to, (She is seven now).

Our natropath who helped her detox and healing said her small bumps

showing up on her face was the candida coming through her facial

tissue. Her bumps increased while doing detox but then died off when

finished. My sister had to cut off all dairy regardless the quality

and all gluten grains during her cleansing stage. Maybe cutting out

oats and kefir for a bit and maybe check her for candida/parasites.

I don't know if this helps but it was the first thing I thought of.

Hello, I am new too, haven't posted an intro yet, but my name is Tana and I live

in Minnesota. I've been feeding my family organic foods for several years but am

just now getting into more of a nourishing traditions type diet.

My son had eczema as a baby and when he got older we realized it was a sign of

food allergies. If I had known, I would have stopped eating these things myself

(I was nursing). The pediatrician never mentioned food allergies, just gave us

creams. Now he is severely allergic to peanuts and eggs.

Mild temperature baths every evening helped, with moisturizer afterward (try

melted coconut oil!) and an elimination diet can help you figure out what is

causing it.

I would try eliminating the eggs first!

2 year old with excema on cheeks, ideas?

Hi Group,

I am new to this group as of Dec 2005 and have read some great posts here.

I have a 2.5 year old who has had excema on her cheeks for the past few

weeks. My wife has been putting lotion on it but it has not cleared. She

thinks it may be eggs or the dairy. I don't know about that.

I have some excema, and my doctor prescribed some steroid cream which

helped. I just keep it on hand now for flareups, and mainly use

coconut oil as an ointment. I eat lots of raw organic grassfed dairy,

and lots of eggs from pastured hends, and I don't think, in me at

least, that this is the cause. My father and sister also have excema,

as did my grandmother, so it seems hereditary. But I have far less --

just a little on the back of my neck, whereas the rest of the family

has it all over, hands, scalp, face, arms. So I do believe the WAP

way of eating is a big help, because they don't follow that.

I am a little curious about this. My question is are you sure it is eczema?

Do you live up in the cold climates? I know a lot of children get raw skin,

especially on the cheeks and noses up in the colder climates. Then I have

also seen that happen with children who rub their faces on their blankets in

their sleep which also means they could be allergic to the fabric or even

the detergent used to wash their bedding or maybe even an allergy to their

bath soap. This may not be of help but these things could be affecting her.

I started to get eczema when I went into menopause on my face but since

switching to WAP it has totally gone away. I have read Dr. Cowan's book and

he says most eczema is adrenal gland related but she is kind of young for

that and she has had a good diet.

Keep us informed on what happens.

Let her have as much natural salt as she likes, as many on the

salt/c protocol notice that their eczema clears up. The salt will

clear out any pathogens trying to live on/in the skin. A woman with

terrible skin (eczema and acne) tried it and her face cleared up in

a few weeks.

Another thing you can try is putting raw apple cider vinegar

(diluted) on it - this clears up many skin problems beautifully. I

put it in the bath water now for my son who is very rashy and it

always clears up the rashes by morning. 2 cups vinegar in the tub.

She can also drink it if she like it - try a teaspoon of vinegar and

a teaspoon of raw honey in some warm water. Some kids like it and

some don't.

There is a lot of evidence that steroids can be pretty harmful, I

wouldn't give them to a child except as a last resort. Some say

they can cause permanent brain damage/personality changes.

You may well be right, although it was topical, not ingested -- can

steroids be absorbed through the skin? I suppose they can, since

progesterone creams work. I am interested in the post about cider

vinegar -- with the next flare up, I will try that instead of the

steroid cream, and maybe coconut oil with it. Sounds much less risky.

Yes, coconut oil is very helpful with skin conditions. I had some

thing on my scalp, would get very itchy and one day I tried coconut

oil on it. It got much worse that evening, but the next day was

gone and didn't come back!

Be sure to get organic coconut oil, that's food grade. You don't

know what kind of preservatives they'll put in it otherwise.

Maybe a light application of coconut oil would help in addition of course to

internal consumption.

My 16 month old has had a patch of eczema on the back of one of her

legs since she was a few weeks old. I had tried everything on it,

with no success. Recently I cut out all soap - and her eczema is

gone - completely. The warm bath water is enough to get any dirt,

food etc off her body and I wash her hair with baking soda and

honey.... in fact we all use this.

The other suggestion I have is to use real soap (commercial soaps

are actually just detergents) for handwashing, when necessary. I

have very, very dry skin and again tried everything on it with little

success. When I switched to Dr. Bronner's bar soap I noticed an

immediate change for the better. Later, as I became interested in

soap-making, I found that SOAPS made with coconut oil are very harsh

on the skin and are very drying (I don't think this is true at all

for the application of coconut oil itself on the skin). Dr.

Bronners soap is primarily made of coconut oil. So, my suggestion

is to get a 100% olive oil soap at a local co-op, or better yet,

find a source for 100% lard soap - or make your own!. I have been

using lard soap for the last 4 months and my skin problems are non-

existent.

Hope this helps!
