I had my myo on April 19th last year...

and my stomach is so much better than it was before...

I can't allow myself to complain about the fact that it is still not

perfectly flat.

And...although there still seems to be " more " of me on one side of the long,

question-mark-shaped scar which reaches from the top of my belly button down

into my " woman's v- " area --- I am hopeful that one day I will achieve a

truly svelte figure again --- stomach included.

mspam,

I wish I had good news for you. I am just a couple of weeks shy of

my one year anniversary following my lap myo and I still have some

puffiness at the incision site. I am not a skinny girl (I'm about 30

lbs overweight)and I understand that the better shape you are in the

quicker you stomach returns to normal, but I still have a hard area

right underneath my incision and the muscles are just now starting to

show signs of real progress. I've been doing several different kinds

of strengthening exercizes for my abs and have seen real improvement

in the muscles higer up, but I'm still fighting for the lower ones.

I continue to be told by my doctor to be patient but it is so hard!

I mostly hate it when I have to get dressed up and I can see my belly

sticking out. UGH!

Hang in there and keep doing your crunches.

Good luck,

Giselle

Just be patient. Mine prabably took almost a year to be pre-fiborid

size again. I had big fibroids. I'll tell you one thing that will get

it down some more - Rebok's 50 minute step exercise program on tape.

It's a killer.

Good question - we're all different shapes before the surgery, we've

all had different surgery, we'll all recover differently - at the six

month mark I expect that the post-op swelling should all be gone.

What can you do? Ask your doctor is your tummy normal (ie no adverse

reasons for the pregnant look) and what can you do to get back to a

flatter shape. I'd suggest also that you can try working on your

posture (walk and sit tall), and practise pulling your tummy in

(focus on pulling your belly button and below in, not your waist -

this will get the deep abdominal muscles working that hold good

posture and protect your back from injury). Also, wearing support

undergarments may help in retraining your tummy on where to go.

My sister had her myo last year (extensive surgery with poor

results) - her tummy looked smaller for a time but is regrowing

again. I had my myo 19 days ago and to my amazement the swelling is

going down day to day. But we really had different surgery, and I

was much fitter beforehand.

Don't despair - and definitely check with your doctor if your tummy

is growing again. All the best, Clare PT.
