By way of comparison, I'll put my basic smoothie recipe below. This is also in my blog, which is in my siggy. Rainbow Light is considered to be a very good quality prenatal. I take 2 of them a day once I'm into my second trimester, and over the hyperemsis/morning sickness. If you can tolerate vitamins with iron in them, that is. ---------------- We do smoothies on a regular basis. Here's my basic recipe with different flavoring choices. I have a large capacity blender- you might need to scale it down. 2 tbs coconut oil, melted and cooled but still liquid 3 egg yolks 1 tbs raw butter, softened, optional 3 cups kefir 1 cup kefir or raw milk frozen into ice cubes raw honey or other sweetner to taste 1 banana, cut into chunks and frozen Combine the yolks, butter and oil and pulse briefly to emulsify. Add other ingredients and blend to desired consistency. Here are some flavoring ideas: a.. chunked canned or fresh fruit with complementing spices, like apples or peaches and cinnamon and vanilla b.. chocolate or carob chips c.. cocoa powder d.. peanut butter e.. coconut milk, pineapple, macadamia nuts and coconut flakes f.. almond extract and pecan pieces or cherries g.. cocoa and raspberries or strawberries h.. egg nog- extra egg yolks, cream, cinnamon and nutmeg i.. canned or fresh pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice j.. chocolate chips and mint flavoring When pregnant, I add the following to a batch. While it does change the color, the quanitites are small so you don't taste it. I keep it in the fridge and sip on it thorughout the day. a.. 1/2 tsp kelp powder b.. 1 tbs nutritional yeast c.. 1 tbs Mount Capra mineral whey or goatien d.. 1/2 tsp acerola berry powder (I omit in first month due to link between miscarriage and high Vitamin C intake) e. magnesium powder f.. 1 tsp blackstrap molasses g.. 3 drops liquid zinc h.. wheat germ oil i.. 1/2 tsp barley green j.. protein powder (Designer Whey is the brand I use) When needed, I also add my kombucha extract drops or liquid lecithin and any other supplements to it.
